Well, you can check with your doctor and make sure he knows this. Remember this you might have been allergic at some time, this doesn't mean your always allergic, it's best to check. The doctor would if and when it was ever necessary although there are other things he can give you to be on the safe side.

My own daughter had this allergy for years, then all of a sudden for some reason she had surgery and the doctor asked her, they found no allergy to penicillin at that time, so..? this happens.

There really is no way for us to determine your chances. There is a genetic factor with allergies and if a child develops an allergy than it is highly likely that at least one of the parents also has allergies. You may want to consult an allergist/immunologist to see about an allergy test and what specific allergens you may be allergic to.

My mother-in-law and brother-in-law are both allergic to penicillin, but neither my husband or I are. We found out when my son was only a few months old that he was also allergic to penicillin.

I'd say your odds are pretty good that you would be allergic too. You might want to discuss this concern with your doctor BEFORE you need an antibiotic. That way you can have a plan of action when the time finally comes that you do need an antibiotic and can avoid any potential problems.

I would say, don't worry about it. Most bacteria are resistant to penicillin anyways, so there is a slim chance you will even ever get prescribed it.
