I'm curious as to what people think if a preacher just pours water on a disabled person when doing a baptism and if it counts. It may not be the same as completely submersing their head in a water but does anyone know if it counts? i was just curious. thanks.

Baptism by sprinkling is as valid as baptism by immersion. Archaelogists have uncovered early Christian baptism areas that would have been far too small to practice baptism by immersion - meaning that early Christians also practiced baptism by sprinkling.

If you are not able to climb into the baptismal pool I see nothing wrong with the Pastor pouring water over your head it is the symbolism that counts. Baptism is the death, & burial of the old self and the birth (reserction) of the new self. It's what is in your heart that counts. You gave your life to Christ and he knows that if you were able you would have been fully submerged!

I'm from a baptist church so of course we believe in the full immersion thing but when one of the senior ladies in our church wanted to be baptized, there was no way she could climb into a tank or even a bath so our pastor went to her house. Put plastic sheeting on the floor, sat her in a commode type chair & poured a huge jug of water all over her. You should have seen her face. She'd been told by many ministers over the years that she couldn't be baptized coz she couldn't get in the tank.
So when our pastor baptized her.......well, all I can say is.....it was the most beautiful baptism I've ever seen.....because our pastor cared enough to step away from "religion and tradition" and practice what Jesus preached....LOVE! Bless you Hope this helps

The Greek word we get "baptism" from means to immerse, therefore if you have not been immersed, you have not been "baptized". You can also see this in the Bible. John chose a location for baptisms because "there was much water there". (John 3:23) Only immersion requires much water.
Baptism is described as going down into the water and coming up out of the water (Acts 8:38-39).
Baptism is also described as a burrial. (Col 2:12, Rom. 6:3-4)

God expects us to submit (obey) to him as much as we are able. Jesus "is the author of eternal salvation to all who obey him" (Heb 5:9).

If such a person is not able to be baptized (immersed), (even if someone carrys her into a vat or a bathtub or rolls her down into the water at a boat ramp, etc.) then someone can argue that person has obeyed to the best of her ability. But I also believe we will be judged based on opportunities we pass up. For instance, has this person refused to obey for years before her health declined? We are not promised endless opportunities.

The main point I want to make is this, even IF her "baptism" was acceptable, most who are reading this are not in that situation. We are fully able to completely obey God NOW, and we will be judged accordingly.

"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." (Acts 22:16)

Yes. The water is just a sign, the reality is the work of Christ. With out Christ the Baptism accomplishes nothing. With the work of Christ the external sign points us to and reminds us of our sins being washed away by His shed blood and sprinkling or pouring represents this just fine.

Soul can not be defective/deformed, lol. Only body with flesh and blood can be defective. After the death of developmentally challenged people (mentally disabled person as per you), soul does not effect the disability. So, their souls are just like normal people.

I am a ministers wife and yes it does count.

You can be baptized in an ocean, lake, creek or
out of a bowl.

Holy Baptism holds the first place among the sacraments, because it is the door of the spiritual life; for by it we are made members of Christ and incorporated with the Church. We do not, however, deny that the words: Let this servant of Christ be baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost; or: This person is baptized by my hands in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, constitute true baptism; because since the principal cause from which baptism has its efficacy is the Holy Trinity, and the instrumental cause is the minister who confers the sacrament exteriorly, then if the act exercised by the minister be expressed, together with the invocation of the Holy Trinity, the sacrament is perfected. The minister of this sacrament is the priest, to whom it belongs to baptize, by reason of his office, In case of necessity, however, not only a priest or deacon, but even a layman or woman, nay, even a pagan or heretic can baptize, provided he observes the form used by the Church, and intends to perform what the Church performs. The effect of this sacrament is the remission of all sin, original and actual; likewise of all punishment which is due for sin. As a consequence, no satisfaction for past sins is enjoined upon those who are baptized; and if they die before they commit any sin, they attain immediately to the kingdom of heaven and the vision of God.





Many Christians begin to learn about the Trinity through knowledge of Baptism. God is one, and the Godhead a single being: The Hebrew Scriptures lift this one article of faith above others, and surround it with stern warnings against departure from this central issue of faith, and of faithfulness to the covenant God had made with them. "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD" (Deuteronomy 6:4) (the Shema), "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Deuteronomy 5:7) and, "Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel and his redeemer the LORD of hosts: I am the first and I am the last; and beside me there is no God." (Isaiah 44:6). Any formulation of an article of faith which does not insist that God is solitary, that divides worship between God and any other, or that imagines God coming into existence rather than being God eternally, is not capable of directing people toward the knowledge of God, according to the trinitarian understanding of the Old Testament. The same insistence is found in the New Testament: "...there is none other God but one" (1 Corinthians 8:4). The "other gods" warned against are therefore not gods at all, but substitutes for God, and so are, according to St. Paul, simply mythological or are demons.

So, in the trinitarian view, the common conception which thinks of the Father and Christ as two separate beings, is incorrect. The central, and crucial affirmation of Christian faith is that there is one savior, God, and one salvation, manifest in Jesus Christ, to which there is access only because of the Holy Spirit. The God of the Old is still the same as the God of the New. In Christianity, it is understood that statements about a solitary god are intended to distinguish the Hebraic understanding from the polytheistic view, which see divine power as shared by several separate beings, beings which can, and do, disagree and have conflicts with each other. The concept of Many comprising One is quite visible in the Gospel of John, chapter 17, verses 20 through 23.

It is given to humans through the Divine union with humanity in Jesus Christ who, although fully God, died for sinners "in the flesh" to accomplish their redemption, and this forgiveness, restoration, and friendship with God is made accessible through the gift to the Church of the Holy Spirit, who, being God, knows the Divine Essence intimately and leads and empowers the Christian to fulfill the will of God. Thus, this doctrine touches on every aspect of the trinitarian Christian's faith and life; and this explains why it has been so earnestly contended for, throughout Christian history.
