Sir Elton John, the apparently 'anti theologian' rock star is advocating the abandonment of religion in England.. this year we have seen other British celebrities wuch as Dawkins author of the blind watchmaker also advocate making teaching relig to children illegal... why is this... The Church of England is pretty mild and hardly a picture of oppressively overstepping authoirty. Is this an overreaction on their parts, a reasonable view, or the stuff of what keep psychiatrists in business when rock stars can't handle people who disagree with them

It is because kids are indoctrinated with religion at an early age by their parents and / or at school. This then makes them think that god is real. In the same way they think that Santa is real.

If they have to be taught religion, best to teach them the HISTORY of all the major religions and earth science as a balance. They can then make up their own minds at a later date as to whether they take up religion or not.

I am rather shocked by this. I always liked Elton John. I live in the U.S. so I don't know what is going on in England. I have heard that there are very few Christians in England and that other religions are growing in number.

You know, of course, that the Queen is the head of the Church of England. The Arch Bishop of Canterbury is the head of the Anglican church worldwide, but his power in not like that of the Pope.

I don't think this will happen. It would be pretty sad if it did.

Well, I would think that it is popular by all who are gross sinners to advocate anywhere in the world the abandonment of religion as they know what they are doing is wrong, they just don't want anybody else telling them so, they want people like themselves to pat them on the back and say that it's great what they're doing.

From what I have observed of Britain over the years ( I have been resident in Canada since 1981, but gone back to visit over the years... last trip this year for 6 weeks) it has moved further and further via socialist left wing policies towards a communistic police state, with intrusive laws passed against individual liberty and "secruity" surveillance increased and an econmic system that penalizes production and rewards non production. The eradication of religion is a primary tool Psychiatry, socialist and communistic policies in order to control populations.
The concept that "religion is the opiate of the masses" is a quote from Karl Marx.
Psychiatry is actually the key manipulater behind these controlling policies including Soviet Russia and Hitler's facistic Germany. (They masterminded the holocast with their eugenics experiments and "theories" so loved Hitler as he gave then all the support they needed to carry out via him their agendas)

I'm not advocating any political viewpoint myself, but merely
giving you my observations. I was actually quite stunned at the degree of deterioration during my last trip.So this new trend does not in fact suprise me.
To answer your question as to why:

Consider this:

A society is capable of surviving for thousands of years unless it is attacked from within or without by hostile forces. where such an attack occurs, the primary targets are it's religious and national gods and heroes,it's potential of leadership and the self respect and integrity of it's members.
If you look around you , you will find countless examples of these points. They scream at us every day from the newspapers and TV.
Probably the most critical point of attack on a culture is it's religious experience. Where one can destroy or undermine religious institutions then the entire fabiric of the society can be quickly subverted or brought to ruin.
For the last hundred years or so religion has been beset with relentless attack. You have been told it’s the “opiate of the masses “, that it’s unscientific, that it is primitive, in short , that it is a delusion.
The source of this kind of attack is always covert and hidden. It is promoted by a few who have a vested interest in a slave society.
Unfortunately these few rely on creating fear and insecurity in others
to forward and promote their enemy propaganda. These others feel correctly they have to defend themselves from an attack, but because the real enemy is hidden, they can be manipulated to attack what they really should be defending as they cannot see the real enemy.

The key here is that underneath all these attacks on organised religion there is one fundemental target:
The spirituality of man, your own basic spiritual nature, self respect and peace of mind.

The reason Elton John wanted it banned was because he said it made people hate gays ( which i dont think is true ). The day a man in a toupee tells me what i can and cant do freely is the day cows give birth to elephants.

Revelation shows the Beast (the governments of the wrold) will kill the harlot ( the false religion of the world). It also prophecies the governments going against the one true religion, this war is called Armageddon. It's the sign of the times, religion is going down.
