In Hindu astrology, it is considered one of the major planetary bodies. Then again, Hindu astrology has two other planetary bodies which are undetectable at the moment by modern science called Rahu and Ketu ( the nodes I believe )
Who knows, somewhere in the future there really might BE Rahu and Ketu. :)

They gave you the definitition of a satellite and you refer to it as a satellite. Other than that how do you differentiate between two heavenly bodies. There is no difference between a planet and a satellite apart from the fact that a satellite revolves around a planet. What you need to appreciate is that it was recognised as a heavenly body! The Moon or "Chanda" is fondly referred to as "Chanda Mama" Or moon the maternal uncle" since the earth is considered like the mother and the moon guards it against attacks by meteors. Other than that you are trying to judge religious philosophies with a scientific bent. Hindus are open to science and some of it even agrees with their religious philosophy so you fail miserably if you were trying to get an antagonistic answer in defence of religion!

The moon in western astrology/astronomy is considered a satellite. In the hindu way of looking at it, satellites and "planets" are all celestial bodies. Celestial bodies can sometimes translate as planet in actual translation and translation of meaning. This doesn't mean that they don't take into consideration the defining characteristics that you are infering to. Rather, they classify it with different terminology.

not only that there are 100's of 1000's of mistakes in their religion. their god ganesha didn't even know who his father was and started fighting with him. the father , even a bigger god , shiva killed his son(choped off his head). And then after realising his mistake replaced the head with an elephant baby's head. LOL
now u can imagine, in hindu even the gods don't know about their families. so how can u expect those gods to know about the ordinary people.how can the god protect ordinary hindus when he can't even protect his own son.the hindu religion doesn't ceases to amaze me as it is based on false stories

what difference does it make? astronomers considered pluto to be a planet and changed the label to large asteroid. a planet has to revolve around a sun and a moon around a planet. it's all about how we label things. it's astronomy, not religion.
