It depends entirely on the circumstances but what should happen is the local authority social services should spend £250000 on enquiring why the owner of the vehicle left it in such a position that a juvenile was compelled to force entry and drive the car away.

If the little shi* was harmed physically as a result of the theft or any subsequent accident, then the owner should be fined or imprisoned for not ensuring that anyone stealing his car was fullly conversant with its operation, and had been fully trained.

Did he suffer any cuts to his arm after breaking the widow?. Sue the owner, he shoudl have made sure that the window had plastic laminate on the outside to prevent this. Hell, he should just have the keys in the car.

It is rare for these cases to get to the Crown Court (where the sentence could be a maximum of three years imprisonment). Not knowing the facts of the case and what your friend's driving was like (there is a separate offence of aggravated vehicle taking where the person who takes the vehicle drives like a maniac and bashes it up), the likelihood is a Community sentence and maybe compensation if any damage was done to the vehicle. He might well be disqualified from driving for a period. If he doesn't have a driving licence, it could mean that it would be a long time before he was on the roads again.

As well as being charged with this offence he would be charged with driving with no insurance and depending on what his driver status was, he could also be charged with driving without a licence.

Driver is classed a the stealer of the car, after all if he was not driving it ....well it wouldn't have been stolen would it.
I actually hope they throw the book at him, send him to prison where he will learn all about a new kind of one way unprotected sex.
Twockers like him make me sick, they push up the cost of insurance, are a helish drain on police resources and are responsible for more car related deaths than anyone else.
I have seen two familys lose children to stolen cars being driven by thieves like your friends son.
The best news I ever get is hearing that some twocker hit a tree and wiped out himself and his mates.
GREAT

NOT LONG ENOUGH, what do they think gives them the right to steal something that some body has worked hard and saved for.

my sons car was stolen then burnt out and as a result his insurance premium went up, so not only was he left without a car due to insurance paying out less than it was worth, he was then penalised with higher premiums when he finally got another car.

the penalty should be much more than it is, most of the time all they get is a slap on the wrist.

He easily heavily isn't likely homestead quickly if the decide has any experience ! the utmost sentence in basic terms for the value of arson - is as much as existence imprisonment. upload in all the different costs too - i could say he would be rattling fortunate to get decrease than 5 years ! If i grew to become into the decide - i could have him jailed for as long as attainable ! perhaps you'll have taught him the value of assets, and sticking to the regulation better ! He merits daily of the sentence he gets !

I suppose he will get ½ hour of community service, but I hope he gets 6 months borstal, after all he has stolen and probably damaged around £5000 of car put peoples live at risk and more than likely wrecked something on the way.

Depends if it his first offence then will probably be a ban or endorsement on his licence, and also maybe a fine or community service and also compensation for the person whose car he stole.

The courts are (too) lenient with most offenders and he will probably get bailed as well.

it depends on if hes a minor or not. i am 15 and i have went to juvenile detention 3 times for stealing cars but i took my uncles once and my dads twice. He could either get "Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle" which is supposed to be a M1, he could get "Conspiricy to........" whatever it would be. i got a charge for being with my boyfriend while he tried to steal a car and i got a F5 for Conspiricy to attempted theft. i think he will probably just get unauthorized use. it depends on if it is his first time with stolen cars. if this is a repetative thing then he might get Grand Theft which is serious. The longest i did for stealing a car was 3 months. it just depends on what hes getting charged with and plus it varies from state to state. im from ohio so...yeah.

Good Luck!! i hope this helps.

it will depend on whether he stole the car, how long it took him to stop, whether he caused any harm to anyone or damage to property.
also how old he is and if he has a criminal record.

all in all he's been a very silly boy but was lucky as he didn't crash and die or kill anyone else.

at the risk of annoying you and others may i suggest your son be careful about who he chooses as friends ,
next time he could be in the car and it might not end so well.

The crime is not 'stealing' the car, but 'taking and driving away'. Sounds like they've got him bang to rights.

I'd like to think a custodial sentence is appropriate - a car is potentially a deadly weapon - and thieves egged on by their friends aren't generally too careful.
