7 years, it's almost as long as being a human doctor.
All veterinarians need to go to college. The first step for most vets is to get a bachelor's degree, which usually takes 4 years. They study biology, chemistry, physics, nutrition, and animal science. They also need to take math and English classes. Many people also get experience by working at animal hospitals or shelters.
The next step is to go to veterinary college for 4 more years. Getting into vet college is competitive. Students who get in usually have very good grades. After college, vets take a test and get a license.

Eight years in total-4 years of regular college and then 4 years of vet school. It is hard work but it does pay off. Good Luck.

It takes 8 years just like a medical doctor. My brother and his wife are both vets in Vermont. They both attended Cornell University for their final 4 years of study.

Believe me, these students work, work, work. its a degree in dedication. The dropout rate is about 0.1 %, the intake 80% female, you need top dollar quals, and a caring attitude. You must not be squeamish about blood.....but the college are 'nice' about that...the first time students are 'baptised' into 'post-mortem' (no, they dont bath you in blood!) the big doors are open, the weather is good, there are deck chairs outside in case you don't feel good.
