Rule of thumb 6 weeks old. I have seen kittens taken from there mother as early as 4 weeks, and do just fine. However I believe this is a bit young, and could decrease there odds for survival. For the mother's milk is so very important. Yes 6 weeks, if the average time for a kitten to be weaned from it's mom. And hopefully they have a new human lined up to care for them. Oh such a sweet and sad question.

If they are weaned and no longer suckling from their momma than 4-5 weeks is okay but the norm and better for the kittens is 6-8 weeks old.

6-8 weeks like other folks have said. As well as ensuring that the kitten is completely weened, a kitten is better "socialized" if it can stay w/ its litter and mom for 6-8 weeks.

Age is not so important. You should wait until the mother cat weens the litter. This is for the natural health of the mother cat. Weened kittens; seems to me, make better companions for humans.

Usually 6-8 weeks after their eyes are opened, or, preferably, after they are weaned.
