appearance has nothing to do with it. My son is in kuk sool won and while he may not be a "built" person (he is 10) he is very good at it and has gotten his belts faster than anyone in his class. Martial artists all look different. You will be good with a lot of practice and training. In his first tournament he had only been in it for 1 1/2 months and he was a yellow belt, fought a blue belt and won first place in sparring, so, appearance has nothing to do with it.

"Breaks out crying uncontrollably and bangs head against the wall"... If you'll look, you'll see that this question has been asked upwards of 3,000 times!!!! There is NO BEST MARTIAL ART (that means there's not one, zilch, zip, nada). That's like asking what the best color is. The answer will always be an opinion. While I may say Ninjutsu, someone else will say Judo or Jujutsu, or Kempo. In the end it all depends on the practitioner and the quality of their training. Rather than worrying about what style to take, take a look at ALL of the schools in your area. Choose the one with the best teacher and whatever he teaches will be the best martial art available to you.

Martial arts is ultimately about perseverance, determination, and self-respect. Your physical appearance does not matter. I've seen a range of people do martial arts successfully: young kids, overweight people, and beanpole ectomorph-types. I'm very small, just over 5 feet, not the kind of person who looks very intimidating or who looks like they'd kick hard. But my nickname at my school was "the Beast." I wasn't the best martial artist at my school, but people respected me for my determination and effort.

"Good" is a relative term; I prefer to use it to mean "skilled." If you put tons of effort into every kick, do a joint lock until you could perform it in your sleep, and always persevere, you will be a skilled martial artist.

yes, you do, but then again I dunno what you really look like, but it doesn't matter what kind of body type you have, how tall you are, how fit or muscular you are.

If you really want to learn ANY Martial Art, just find a school that interests you and take a couple of trial classes to decide whether or not you like it and then enroll in the class.

watch out for school's that're a "mcDojo's" type of school.

these kinda schools usually have a high turnover rate of students, and often brag about students making their black belts in about 2 or 3 years (which it should be up to 5 years or better), and will often try to get you to commit to a contract, usually one that's 6 months long or more. they'll also brag about how many tournaments their students have entered in and placed or won a trophy or awards, tournaments are good to go to, but they are not necessary because that's the LEAST thing to worry about in Martial Arts.

In short a McDojo's type of school will basically "give" you your belt ranks as long as you are paying the outrageous fees per month, and you won't really learn self defense.

and there is NO "better" Martial Arts discipline that is out there that's better than another because they're fundamentally the same on many different levels.

...I was a wrestler in high school with record of 14-2, I'm currently a Muay Thai fighter with record of 3-2 (all but one opponent outweight me 10 to 25 lbs) Most people never know I do martial arts unless I told them.

Many of martial artists I know doesn't even look like one at all! The nearest you can come to tell if someone is a martial artist by looks is if you look at their body. However it's easy to mistake them for other type of athlete.

On other hand, the nearest you can get to tell if someone do martial arts is by look at their ears. Wrestlers/grapplers tend to have cauliflower ears. but not all of their ears look like that.

anyone can be good at martial arts if they practice and persevere. you have to have the right attittude including discipline and respect (of self and others). There are even Martial Arts classes for people who are special needs. And it's never too late to learn, if you're willing to get out there and try.

Well, looks doesn't matter in any martial arts. Most importantly is your dedication to the art that's all.
