Iberia can be ok or bad.
Don't expect something out of this world.Usually FA's are lazy, rude and spend more time chatting in the galley than attending the passengers.
But, I guess they are better than Biman Bangladesh or Ariana !

If you should be looking for a family vacation areas then Madrid is the city and that hotelbye is the area to start. The kids will only adore Madrid because there are enough amusement parks, zoos and expeditions to help keep them entertained for weeks. In Madrid you may also discover some of the famous place in the world like: Alcalá Gate, el ground de football Santiago Bernabéu, la Plaza España Square and much more. Madrid also presents areas wherever you can get socked with lifestyle, areas like: Thyssen Museum or Archaeological Museum. In few words: Madrid is just a city that's several interesting areas to show it.

I flew Iberia from Madrid to Rio De Janerio last year. It was OK, but nothing special. Return flight was delayed 4 hours, but they sorted out my onward BA flight to London OK.

My Iberia experiences have not been too good. They are not the worst, but they have a bad attitude to delays, never apologise and are pretty offhand in general. Their prices are not the best, either.
This is not the worst airline, but not the best.
I have travelled wonderfully-serviced eastern or Thai airlines, which I would give 9 out of 10. Iberia gets 6.5 out of 10. Shop around.

Never flown to NY with Iberia, but other flights made with them weren't too good! Expecially with a change in the middle... they lost my baggage (in fact they lost about half of the planes luggage)! I wouldn't recommend them. Sorry.

Iberia have a very poor reputation but are usually cheap so you get what you pay for

The following reviews somehow involve flights to JFK with Iberia:

1) JFK-MAD-AGP return. At take off time the crew had not yet appeared. Story was they were caught in traffic. We made it so why could they not. Both the outgoing and return flights were pretty much on time. Putting up with the less than warm service aboard was the only less than ordinary occurrence. Absolutely no cockpit announcements. The worst part was the total disarray at the new and rebuilt Barajas airport in Madrid. The new train from international to domestic is an improvement if you can decipher the signs. Also a time in the AM when several large occupancy overseas flights arrive only two immigration officers were on duty to facilitate admission to the country. With so many people the line was back to JFK. Roughly 75% of the passengers missed their connections. I guess they spent so much on the new terminal they ran out of enough money to hire sufficient staff.

2) LHR-MAD-JFK last month. Heathrow to Madrid in economy. The ground staff were helpful and friendly and aircraft clean and modern, however the food was a little overpriced in my opinion. Barajas airport is huge! I managed to locate the gate for my next flight so decided to spend the next 2 hours wait looking around the shops. Boarded the flight to JFK,(economy class), aircraft looked as if it hadn't been cleaned! Sat on the plane for nearly 2 hours, before taking off with a brief explanation from the pilot as to why. Turns out it was due to a missing passenger and trouble locating his luggage to offload (fair enough I suppose). I heard fellow passengers enquiring with the crew about why we were still sitting on the tarmac and they were completely ignored! Finally took off, crew served meal-which was completely pointless and very unappetising! I didn't use the inflight entertainment as I listened to my own music and read my magazines although it seemed ok. The crew disappeared for most of the flight, the call button on my seat didn't work and as I was sitting by the window, was forced to disturb the poor man next to me numerous times! I asked the stewardess for a glass of orange juice (politely I might add) and I got what I would class as a dirty look and a surly response of 'crew button - use it!'. I didn't have the energy to explain to her that it had broken so just smiled and accepted the drink. Throughout the flight the pilot didn't speak to us once to give us any information which is unusual as they generally do on other airlines I've flown with. In the future I would fly Iberia short haul as they were cheap and I had a good flight but I wouldn't use them for long haul again! The flight from MAD-JFK did NOT deserve it's 3 star rating!

3) JFK-MAD-FCO then ATH-MAD-JFK. We brought lots of water and snacks. It was much better than I expected. The only problem we encountered was when the Flight Crew was late getting to JFK due to a car crash on the freeway. We left over an hour late and missed our flight connection in Madrid. Getting around the new Madrid airport was terrible. Elevators, escalators, and walking long distances seems to be the norm. The SkyTrains at JFK and SFO are a much better system. The service in Madrid arranging for us to catch the next flight to FCO was about a 7 on a 1 to 10 scale. Service on long the flights was adequate but not great. We took American from SFO-JFK and return. They really put Iberia to shame bringing us drinks at least every 45 minutes. Iberia offered us water/sodas maybe 3 times on the longest flight. We took a total of 11 flights on this trip and Iberia service was about the same as other airlines. The one really good thing was the Airbus 310 from ATH - MAD. It was the roomiest plane I've ever been on and I always fly economy. I'd fly Iberia again to Europe because they usually have a low price and the service we received was adequate

4) Business class from MAD to JFK. Service was good, and seats and overall cabin comfort were superior. I had heard that Iberia was problematic, but we couldn't have had a much better experience. The food was fine and the wines and drinks selections were excellent. We particularly enjoyed all of the music listening and movie options. Would certainly fly on Iberia again.

5) New York - Paris via Madrid, Business Class. Iberia has an excellent Business Class product (seat, IFE, inflight entertainment and email/internet connection) almost worthy of Asian airlines. Unfortunately, the buck stops there : No lounge access at CDG, almost inedible food (above average wines though), and totally uninterested and negligent flight attendants who, on all four flights with the exception of one dedicated purser on the MAD-JFK segment, border on the hostile. The result is for all to see : Less than half full business class cabins on all four segments and an expensive investment in cabin upgrades which will not be paying until Iberia reviews its act in catering and personnel training. Meanwhile, bring your own sandwiches.

6) New York to Madrid in the new Business Class called BusinessPlus and onboard a new Airbus A340-600 that was only two weeks old. I have always complain about the business class service of Iberia but I must say that things have change. The seat is incredible convertible into bed. The food was excellent: the menu is made by a very famous spanish chef. Regarding the cabin crew, very attentive. Check in at JFK very fast and the business lounge used is the one from British Airways.
