i own a repair shop, and i don't know the exact year ,it was in the early 30,s i think ,but gmc stands for general motors corporation it was just a version of all the best parts they had to use on a vehicle, and they named it a gmc,it was supposed to be the work version of there best truck, and down through the years they kept the name and did make it a better truck than a regular Chevy was ,but that's where the name comes from,,good luck,i hope this help,s.,,PS someone above mentioned the year was in the early teens im not sure on that but i do have records showing they back to the early 20,s.
