I have a 7 month old hound/lab/shepard mix. He has completely destroyed 3 beds in the past 3 months (2 in the last week). How can I keep him from doing this? I leave 2 or 3 chew toys in his crate (stuffed with goodies), and he is not in the crate for more than 4 hours at a time. It even happens when people are home. The last bed was this morning. I left at 7 AM, and my roomate called me at 10 saying that he shredded his bed again!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

two tips,
1, half fill a small pop bottle with small stones and everytime you see it chewing the bed or anything else you dont want him to chew shake the bottle loudly this shound he will not like and eventuallly will stop doing what ever he is doing when that sound is heard.
2, if it is a plasic bed then get some cotton wool or old cloth and soke viniger all over the bed he will not like the taste hence stop chewing.
good luck.

Well, with both of my dogs we had that problem. For my lab we stopped giving her a bed a we let her sleep on the floor. For the other dog we have he slept in a crate. We also give both of them their favorite chew toy. My lab we give a tennis ball and the mixed we give him squeaky toys.

Beat the dog! I'm joking, it's a good thing he's young, the first thing you do is let him know that he is a bad dog for shredding his bed, you don't have to slap him or anything, just let him know by telling him hes a bad dog, and such. Make sure he knows why hes getting in trouble though. If it still keeps happening, don't get him a bed, make him sleep in your garage for a day, because he won't like it in there and will figure out that if he keeps shredding his bed then he's gonna sleep outside. Try that

Sounds like seperation anxiety. My lab was a destroyer, too.
Try not to make him go in the crate for being bad - he'll associate the crate as a bad place. instead, try to train him to accept the crate as his own space. That was alot of training for me and my dog, but giving him treats before he finds it's time to go helps a little bit.

Been there! Our pup went through 3 beds, I stopped buying beds and got her a matt. She chewed on the corners a bit but I guess it wasnt as much fun as chewing up a bed because she left it alone and just slept on on it. She did how ever tear up the cats bed!

i comprehend what are you dealing with, I had a similar situation with my bull terrier. anytime i purchased her new mattress and positioned it in her crate it replaced into destroyed withing both minutes or hours, depending on how solid replaced into the mattress. finally i began identifying to purchase commonly used bath towels in bulk and putting them in her crate. What worked for me replaced into at the same time as i ultimately were given yet another mattress rather of putting it in her crate I put in interior the room and the instantaneous she all started chewing on it I corrected her and distracted her with something. After couple of days of doing that I positioned the mattress in her crate at nighttime at the same time as she replaced into really drained. Then i began leaving the mattress for longer and longer and with time she were given used to it and stopped chewing and all started playing the relax. i do not comprehend if this can grant you with the outcomes you want considering that all canines are diverse, yet i wish you'll locate something which will. good success.

You can't lol!! We have a golden and he ate all the styrofoam out of three of his beds. I finally got smart and stopped spending a fortune on beds. He has a ratty blanket that he loves with all his heart now and he doesn't eat it (too much!!!)
