No, you're actually thinking of Job, not Jacob. You're close though, Sexy Irishman.

God has destroyed entire populations by the cities. He harkens to the cries of the cities and He took action as written in the Bible. God is love does not mean that God is someone who will sit quietly and watch when sin becomes unbearable to others. Whenever some sin is committed, there is always at least one victim involved. God dispenses justice and no one can stand before his wrath, However, His anger is only second to His eternal mercy. He has also forgiven when people repent and turn to him (Jonah and the city of Nineveh). Back to the question, Esau looked down upon what was rightfully his as firstborn in his family. Jacob coveted that blessing. Hence, the emotions in those verses. But God does not give into rage or anything like that. His hatred for Esau's decision is conquered by His mercy and Esau too lives a blessed life on earth. That one verse does not tell the whole story. We have to read through the relevant chapters in Genesis to comprehend the depth of God's love even towards those who forsake Him.

Well, it wasn't Jacob, it was Job. And God didn't kill any1 or destroy anything. Job 1:6-12, it says that God was pleased with how Job feared the Lord, and walked as a blameless and upright man. Satan thought this was only because God had given Job so many riches and abundance. So God gave all that Job had to satan, to do what he wanted with him, just not to take his life.
God did not have all these things done to Job to show satan that Job loved Him no matter what. Satan brought other peoples to kill Jobs livestock and his sons and daughters(Job 1:13-19). satan also inflicted Job with sores (Job 2:7). Job remained true to God. God did not do this to Job, but He allowed satan to inflict Job. After all this had been done, and Job still loved God, He blessed Job with twice as much as he had b4.(Job 42:10)
So to answer your question in short form, no, God did not kill Job's family..farm..etc. to show satan that Job loved God no matter what.

Yes, it is true. It is in the Book of Job. God didn't do it Himself but he did allow Satan to do it in order to see if Job would still remain loyal. It seems to contradict the idea of God as a loving God to me but the OT is actually full of stories of God doing horrible things to people. Christians say these people were either so bad they had it coming (??) or that the OT was the old law and Jesus changed it all. Still we have either a really wrathful, ego driven, jealous, petty God or God underwent a personality transplant. Doesn't make sense to me.

What I think most people are forgetting is that after Job was done being tested, God gave him twice as much as he ever had before. Satan killed his flocks, then God gave him double the amount of animals he had in the first place. Satan took everything from him, and then God made him even wealthier than he was before.
Job was an awesome, unshakable guy, and God totally rewarded him for it.

No this was JOB..not jacob..you should read it. God did not do the things to Job..Satan did, GOD allowed it to show that no matter what circumstance you are in you should always keep your faith. God will provide your needs and make sure you are taken care of. Get a KJV (King James Version) or an NIV (new international Version (easier to understand) and read the book of Job....It is pronounced JOBE.....it is a wonderful book

It's Job. Satan wanting Job to blame God and turn from him for all the miserable and bad things that were happening to him. It's like today, people blame God for all the misery in the world and life and they don't blame Satan. Satan likes it when we get mad at God because of our bad situations and turn from him. We never stop to think that it's been Satan all a long making us miserable and putting all these bad things on us.

It was Job who was "tested" in this way; and ha'satan did it, but with permission from YHWH. This was before the Hebrew people viewed anything as a separate "devil-figure." "Satan" just means "accuser" or "opposer": it was the word used to describe anything that stood in the way of men's intentions.

Japandra is pretty cold-blooded, don't you think? God gave Job Twice As Much afterwards, so that makes it A-Okay. Job's children were dead. He didn't get them back. They weren't resurrected. Having more children really isn't compensation for the ones lost.

No...it was Job.
1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered * my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
