My telly has a strange looking bubble appearing inside it and the colour is starting to fade, is it time for a new telly or is it repairable?

If the 'bubble' is appearing on the screen then it's possible that you have a magnetic field close to the screen, i.e. a music system loudspeaker etc. It's also possible that someone has placed a strong magnet actually on the screen, on a colour set this can permanently distort the picture. If you've got a speaker too close then move it away and the picture should revert to normal (it may take a while). If someone has placed a magnet on the screen then yes it's time for a new set as the chances are it will need a new tube.

However, if the 'bubble' is physically appearing on a largish cylindrical component (a capacitor) inside the set on the circuit board then it is easily repairable. You should also get it done fairly quickly as these bulges are caused by a pressure build-up inside the device which can lead to a fairly dramatic explosion with lots of smoke and poisonous fumes !

From my experience it sounds as though a capacitor in the power supply is starting to fail and needs replacing, but you really need to get someone to look at it.

Don't be tempted to try and fix it yourself, there are very high voltages inside a colour set, and believe me, it HURTS if you get zapped ! You can still get a nasty electric shock even if the set has been turned off for several weeks !!!

This problem sounds like your tv is too close to a magnetic field. do you have stereo speakers sittin close to it? If so move them. Also this could be due to deteration of the color guns in the picture tube which means buy a new tv.

i would suggest that you take it to the shop you bought it from as long as it is guaranteed & tell them to fix it or buy a new tv
