Unless you want a career in manual work such as housekeeping, ditch digging and (maybe) waitressing, some knowledge of computing is essential in the marketplace. Many careers like retail or nursing have such customized software that it would be impossible to learn in advance, but in any case a basic understanding if keyboard operation is essential. You probably already have that.

In today's business world, knowledge of computer software is crucial. Especially the office suites like Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I am a manager in an insurance company, and I can't hire anyone unless they know Excel. This means that even if you had a PhD I couldn't hire you if you didn't know Excel and Word. There are many programs out there that will teach these basics at little or no cost. I highly recommend that you become proficient in these.
