Hi my dog's first heat was silent so i didn't even know she had one till my vet told me, she didn't swell up or anything no blood nothing, i didn't know till the second one and boy oh boy you know it when she is, her "area" gets very very swollen and if it is her first heat her nipples will get bigger after .......well at least my dogs did.
She is also very good about cleaning up after her self very rarely do i see blood except in her bed where she sleeps.
This heat i only saw blood once.
My dog also had her first heat before a year old and from what i was told by my vet smaller dogs will come into heat more often then bigger dogs, they could have there first heat at 6 months and then every six months after that.
My cocker came into heat at 10 months and every 7-8 months after that, she just had her 3rd heat and she is 2.
my min pin is 6 months now and was in heat for the first time she looks normal and she has no signs of a heat but a male dog wouldn't leave her alone she kept chasing him away.
You can put a diaper on her and if she has a tail put some men/boys underwear and use a pad.

Dogs typically start have their first estrous period around 8 to 9 months and up to a year. You will notice some blood on her hind end. She may be acting strangely or wanting to go outside a lot.

(If she pees and there is blood in the pee, that is a huge sign of a bladder infection and not the start of a cycle.)

You may notice blood when she pees but it is more likely from her normal bleeding just getting into the pee.

And, just curious, are you planning to breed her? If you are then do a little more research on the dogs estrous cycle.

SPAY YOUR DOG. I'm sure she's wonderful and special, but there's millions of wonderful and special dogs in the world already. If you can't afford the spay, get in touch with your veterinarian, local animal rescues, or animal control; most areas have some sort of low-cost spay/neuter program.

Please don't just roll your eyes. Pet overpopulation is a serious problem. Even if you have friends who would take any puppies she whelps, those friends could be adopting an eternally grateful puppy or dog from an animal shelter. I guarantee that if you had to look at a dozen euthanized dogs every day like I do, you'd get her spayed TOMORROW. Futhermore, not spaying her puts her at risks for diseases that are uniquely uterine - ie, uterine and ovarian cancer, and uternine infections that are often deadly. Please take this seriously.

MY GOLDEN RETRIEVER WENT INTO HEAT AT 7 MOS. OLD
SHE WAS LICKING HERSELF A LOT TO KEEP THE AREA CLEAN..SHE GOT VERY SWOLLEN AND HER NIPPLES WERE A LITTLE LARGER

WE DID NOT SEE BLOOD ON ANYTHING AS SHE WAS VERY GOOD ABOUT CLEANING HERSELF
DOGS CAN GO INTO HEAT FROM THE TIME THEY TURN 6MOS OLD AND SOME DON'T HAVE A HEAT CYCLE UNTIL THERE OVER A YEAR OLD.

KEEP HER AWAY FROM ANY UN-WANTED MALE FRIENDS

THEY HAVE A HEAT CYCLE EVERY 6MOS THERE AFTER

spaying is the best way to prevent having a messy period. if you don't want her spayed they happen about every 4-5 months. her period will start soon cuase she is about a year old and that's when it starts.

Mine started right at her first year, so you might want to keep a close eye on her...she is still way to young to allow to breed.
