The most effective thing I found, and didn't include having to put poison on my dog, was to feed him garlic, A tablespoon or so of minced garlic (you can buy it in jars in the supermarket) mixed in his food did the trick. Apparently it changes the taste of the blood and the fleas don't like it.

Brewer's yeast is supposed to work as well. Check out my source below for an article that may help you out.

The garlic worked great for me (well, for him!)

Stuff you buy in shops will not work. Go to the Vet and get him some Frontline or Advantage. The Vets have cornered the market on everything that works on fleas, parasites, worms and ticks. If you are keeping the dog inside then your really do need to keep him tick and flea free from a health standpoint of not only the dog but the humans in the home.

Shampooing the dog is ok! but fleas feed on the dog and sometimes humans then jump off to digest the blood.
Fit a flea collar onto your dog or use frontline drops put onto the back of your dogs neck. Then get a house spray/powder and treat the dogs bed etc. Fleas hide in dark warm areas, carpets are ideal these should be sparyed or powdered. Follow the directions on the tin. This should get rid of them. Your vet should also have some strong stuff, but expensive.

Don't waste your time with the supermarket garbage. You can buy Advantage or Frontline at Petsmart or Petco. These transdermal topical solutions work the best and will eliminate most fleas in two treatments by sterilizing the fleas. Then, you will need to continually vacuum and dumping the contents or bags regularly to get rid of dander and stray fleas. It costs more, but, will save you more in the long run.

Front line is good, Advantage is cheaper but don't kill tick's but just as good for the fleas.

I've got 2 dog's and use advantage all the time and i never see a flea.

Make sure you hover EVERYWERE down sofa, dogs bed, and spray or use powder where you cant hover.
DON'T waste your money on flea collar's or shampoo's for your dog, they are useless, all they do is kill the fleas around the neck but they still live on the rest of the dog.

As your dog all ready has fleas I'd get a flea collar and put in the the hover so when you hover them up it will kill then and they wont just jump back out again lol.

Oh yes as someone said garlic meant 2 work to lol

you want to regulate the interior of your position with the intention to get rid of those pesky little adult adult males otherwise they'll purely re-infest your canines, you want to come across a "Flea Fogger" that you'll in many cases locate at your community ironmongery save(Lowes,or residing house Depot),make confident the label says it kills both human being fleas and flea eggs, the purely thanks to give up the fleas thoroughly is to regulate the pets with a very good high quality product and manage your position also. Fleas also carry worms and parasites so that is necessary to have all of your pets checked for that too, placed all of your pets on a very good high quality flea/tick preventative which incorporates Comfortis or Advantix Plus,i do not recommendd you take advantage of Frontline as they have been having some topics with there product not operating. Fleas are serious and this difficulty could not be taken gently. And purely bear in mind it purely takes one flea to commence a wide infestation of your position, pets or perhaps your self.

The only products worth using are the prescription medicines that are only acailable from your vet. They may cost slightly more than the ones fromt the pet shop or supermarket etc, but are guaranteed to work as they've had to go through more in the way of trials to prove their effectiveness.

You should also treat the house as well, most of the flea eggs are living around your house! Again a spray from the vet is best for this purpose.

Best of luck...

The supermarket stuff just really doesn't work. You need to order Frontline Plus or Advantage. I use frontline plus on 2 dogs and 1 cat. I have never had fleas. You can order frontline on line for cheaper then you can get at vets office. I use budgetpetmeds.com and its reasonable pricing and shipped in 2 days normally. good luck.

Go to vet and buy frontline or stronghold.

The problem is, is that he has probably left fleas in your soft furnishings so it doesn't matter how often you clean him, as soon as he walks past a bit of carpet or sofa with a flea in it, they will hitch a ride and your back to square one.

Frontline also protects your house to some extent in the hair that they shed. Otherwise you need to treat your house too.

My Dog had them and I did the same as you, spent a fortune buying stuff recommended in pet shops. Nothing worked. Went to vet and got Frontline Spray to start with, it got rid of the fleas almost straight away, now she gets done with Frontline drops and no sign of them anymore Yey!!!
