Try running some spyware/malware and virus software, it sounds like you are infected with a worm and/or trojan and the PC freezes itself as there are no more system resources available. You can download free spyware software and virus software from www.download.com
for virus, I suggest AVG

Look at you system tray and see how many unecessary programs you have running in the background that are using you system resources. You may want to click on preferences and disable the option of automatic startup. You can also right click on my computer (if you have pc) and see how much of your system resources are being used up. Clean all your temp history cookies and so on. Run yahoo spyware check right from the toolbar. The thing is you computer may need some maintenance. Click start got to control panel and add /remove programs and remove any software program installed that you never use anymore. Then once you have done all of that you can go to start and then to help and support and i suggest you perform disk maintenance and defrag each drive. It takes a while but you have to take care of your comp. Alot of things can cause a comp to run slowly. Pay attention to any error messages. You could have low memory on you comp and deleting some software programs may help! Good Luck

You have some kind of RAM leak where a program keeps using more and more ram as time passes when it doesnt need too.
Hit Control Alt Delete and go to process tab (winXP). End process things and see if it fixes it.

it could be because you need to dust the dirt out of the system and you might have a serious virus problem like if you have pop ups with out going on the internet the computer would have adware. or you might have to defragment and compact the registry or use system mechanic or registry mechanic both works well.

You have too much crap runnin at once! Its like you are tryin to pull a semi trailer up a hill with a VW! Just because your system has 420 programs in it doesnt mean it can run them all at once!

The most likely reason is that it is overheating.
Open it up and blow out the dust with canned air or a very soft brush. Don't use a vacuum cleaner, they generate static and will kill your computer.
