In my religion, we have both a God and a Goddess. This is the Pagan point of view, and I'll give you a possibly VERY extended explanation why I think this is so, and you can judge whether I'm right or not.

Before Catholic Constantine was emporer of Rome, many different branches of religion were existent in Europe that considered the females to be dominant. This is the reason why there were so many Goddess statues and other likenesses of Dionysus, Athena, Venus, and a whole list of other female Goddesses. This is also why modern-day people try to irritate females by calling them "witches" because after Constantine took over, many people felt they had to go underground with their centuries-old practices of Paganism and Wiccanism (and others) were primarily females. This is also a reason you see old pictures where the community burned an alleged witch at the stake; the "witch" is usually female.

So, to answer your question, God is both.

The Bible refers to God as a "he" but this is only so that we can understand or perceive him as humans. He is a spirit and spirits do not have a gender. But since God created man (Adam) First and woman (Eve)as his helper(read creation account in the book of Genesis chapter 1) it is only fair to think of him as a "male".But again he is a SPIRIT.

"GOD is a spirit, and he that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." Although the person or characteristics of his nature is decribed as (He, His, Him, Father) or male. He is neither male or female but a spiritual being that can manifest himself in any form that he so pleases.

Peace,

Hope

Jesus said God is a spirit, but he used the word "father" to describe his relationship with us.

Is there something about God and his relationship to us that makes him more fatherly and less motherly?

God is a hermaphroditic duck billed platypus with the hind quarters of a pig.

That which underlies and overwhelms cannot be defined by us as we are limited in our appreciation.

Most of us huddle in chattle to motives device. Most exist outside of inter-connection. Most are detached, distant, sanctimonious, oblivious, argumentative, addicted, destitue and destructive.

The idea that we could define what we fail to appreciate suggests our failure to even be able to comprehend beyond.

The Bible refers to him as a "He," so I'm assuming he is male. He transcends human sexuality, because he's, of course, not human. He's a spirit. So he is different in that respect. In other words, he's not your average guy.
