Christmas around the corner and my daughter is very creative. She needs something that will keep her busy and won't make her lose interest in one use. She likes to color and and paint and is beyond just coloring books. Any ideas?

Hsn had this large dollhouse for about $19.98 that I just saw and I may buy for the Christmas giving tree at church....you put it together...and the child has the colored markets and sparkles and additions to make it the castle of her choice.

I have the same thing going on. My daughter is 8 as well and already has sooo many " art sets" already.
Last weekend I went to the mall window shopping and I finally found some interesting gifts for the child who has a creative mind. The Discovery Store. There are so many creative items in this store, and they are unique, not anything that you find anywhere else.

Buy her a painting easel and painting supplies (canvases, painting boards, or ,more likely strong butcher paper, paints--tempera cleans up well if spilled, watercolors are good, too--brushes and a water can). Set up a drop cloth in one corner of her room and placed the easel there. Arrange her art supplies on a small table nearby and replenish when needed. Monitor her the first time (to make sure she doesn't paint up the walls) and give her a lot of encouragement.

You will be surprised with what she comes up with.

I raised a daughter who was just like that. It was right about that time when we thought we were out of ideas for her. Then while out Christmas shopping one night, my husband and I saw a good sized, safe for her age, chemistry set. We got it and a microscope. It was the best idea we had ever had.
Of course every thing in our house got tested for something, and every night as I cooked dinner, she would look at the food through the microscope and test it for starches and such.

She love those two gifts more than any other gift she had ever received and they got used daily for a long time. There were some things that she had to have supervision for but she had a blast with those two gifts.

I bought my daughter an art set, different kinds of paper, paints, charcoal pastels, glue sticks, stickers, paint set with different kinds of brushes, beads and beading string etc. She just loved it! Places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels sell craft kits for all kinds of things that are very nice, all kinds of different things to do. You could throw in a couple of childrens craft books too, so she can get some good ideas from the supplies that she has.

My daughter is the same way. Go to your local arts and crafts store and get a bunch of arts and craft materials. Most of them also have plain wood items that need to be finished or painted and that's a great project. There are also so many craft kits available.

That new "Crayola Cutter" looks interesting.
