I went for a walk in local woodland today, and picked up several sticks. I was also wearing clothing made from several different materials. According to the bible, both those activities carry the death penalty, I ask Christians and other theists, should I now be dragged out and stoned to death, and if not, why do you ignore those parts of the bible and still endorse others?

No, this isn't hypothetical! I really did pick up sticks (Beacuse they looked pretty!) and I was wearing nylon/cotton/wool/polly materials. The bible really does condemn these activities! So, am I damned for all time or what??

All religions contradict themselves. Its better to believe in your self other than myths of the past. Religion is for the weak, the true winners choose thier own path. It would be so dissapointing to reach the end of your life and realize theres nothing else after all. Believing so hard through out your life when you could have been REALLY living. Dedicating your life to a belief conjoured up so many 100s of years ago. I doubt very much those people from back then had very much intelligence. They didnt even have democracy! In this day of age, religion is very outdated. Its only the weak, the extremists, the lost and the gullible that believe such rubbish.
Just get on with life, go pick some more sticks. Remember to be kind to the environment tho!
Have a good day.

You picked up several sticks and were wearing clothing made from several different materials? Is that a death penalty? No, you shouldn't be killed because you may have been unaware of your breaking the law of the Bible.

Exactly, its the same case with miracles.
Some miracles are said to add colour to the Bible's description and only have a symbolic meaning such as Jesus walking on water.
Other miracles are deemed to be critical of the Bible's teaching such as the Virgin Birth and Resurrection.
Who are we to decide which miracle was real and false?
And if we CAN decide and cherry-picking, then why do we even need the Bible in the first place?
Fundamentalists may reject reason, but moderate christians reject faith and reason equally

I dont know why I am answering this question but here goes
The Mosaic law only applies to those it was given to. IE the Nation of Israel. If one is not part of the nation of Israel then he/she is not obligated by its laws.
now if someone was a member of the nation of Israel they still would not be liable under the death penalty because due to the fact its not enforced these days and that today is not the Sabbath.
furthermore the mixture of clothing you mentioned is called by the Hebrew word Shatness in the Bible. That applies only to a mixture of wool and linen. So even their you did not violate anything.
so no matter how you look at it you did nothing wrong
sorry to disappoint you.

A lot of the laws in the Old Testament were given specifically to Israel and were for before Jesus came to offer his sacrifice for sin. Even the ten commandments weren't given to us. However, the ten commandments were given to define what our consciences should be telling us so we try to follow them anyway. If we were to endorse all the punishments in the Old Testament, the UK would be vastly under-populated as there was the death penalty for committing adultery!

Well perhaps you should - since you condemn homosexuals with old biblical law, you should be held to the same standards. Or you could just chill out and understand the non-applicability to some things in the bible to today and be nice to yourself and others and let God do the judgment, huh??

#1...these Laws were given to the Jews not to the Nations. #2...no place does it say that the penalty for wear a garment of mixed materials is death. It simply states that you should not do it.
As for the picking up sticks...I'm not even sure where you got that one.

well, maybe you should be sticked to death, not stoned. The clothing thing is a little more esoteric - if you're female and gorgeous, try walking around naked for a couple of days.

I think that stoning you is a bit extreme, but you had better rub some dirt and ash in your hair to get God's attention; you want to let Him know that you are truly repentant and wanna live.
