It can be very dangerous. The fat content is WAY too high, leading to diarrhea and obesity. The protein level is also WAY too high...often higher than the Hi-performance dog foods. This high pretein level can lead to kidney problems in certain breeds and as the dog ages.
There are foods for cats and foods for dog for a reason!!!!!!

They really swing from dog to dog and breed to breed. I have had people tell me about all the things that kill my dog (he's in perfect health by the way.) Some things are general rule, chocolate is bad for dogs, I have yet to find a person who has lost their dog to chocolate and many dogs who have eaten chocolate. Grapes and raisins, yet to meet a person who lost a dog, a few dogs have got sick (quantity speaking, I would have been sick too,) but none that I know of have died. Onions and tomato's, my dogs love pizza, and I love my veggies, still none sick, and none dead. One of my aunt's dogs died once after eating chicken though, and the vet told us it was the chicken. Any animal can react to any type of food. Some have high tolerance, many don't, proceed with caution. Peanuts will kill some humans.

Eating cat food probably won't hurt your dog, though it's best that he doesn't eat it all the time. Cats and dogs require different diets. Cats are pure carnivores, meaning they typically eat nothing but meat, while dogs are omnivorous, meaning that they eat some plant materials along with their meat.
Cat diets are made primarily of meat and meat products, so in the long run they can be too rich for dogs and can cause digestive problems. They are also denser in calories than dog diets, so they can lead to obesity in dogs. Because of the additional fat and calories, cat food often tastes better to dogs than dog food does, so you may have to keep an eye on your dog to make sure he doesn't indulge in the kitty kibbles.

Hello,

Cat food is Generally too high in protein and fats. Cats require a higher protein intake than dogs do. feeding cat food to your dog will cause problems like bladder stones, urinary obstructions, fatty liver, ect.

It's not dangerous really, but it doesnt' have the same nutrients and vitamins that dog foods do. So dog food is better, but it's not going to hurt your dog to grab a bite or two of cat food...just don't make it his primary meal.

Cat food is fine for dogs, as it is high in protein. My cousin's Irish Setter lived for over 15 years on Purina Cat Chow.

However, dog food is NOT good for cats, as there is NOT enough protein in it to sustain cats.
