When I minimize active applications they are not displaying on my taskbar. It seems as though they are going behind or below the task bar but when I hide that taskbar, I still cannot find them. It's probably a single box that needs checked or unchecked but so far I haven't been able to find it. 10 points to the first person who helps me solve this. thanks

My guess is that you've copped some sort of infection which has tinkered with you system settings. There are programs which will allow you to adjust almost any program to minimise to the system tray instead of the taskbar, but it is not an XP default behaviour, and even these ap's would need to be installed and configured deliberately. Try re-setting your theme via "display" settings, but I get the feeling you are going to need to run a malware and virus scan to be sure.

In the mean-time though, you can always use the alt + tab keys to cycle through all your open applications, no matter where they are minimised to

I not sure what you are asking. Are you talking about the Windows Taskbar or the Office taskbar?
