In May 2004, a Pollock painting called "Number 12, 1949" (one of his famous "drip" paintings) was sold at auction in New York for $11.65 million (£6.62 million).

Personally, I would say roughly $11.64 million too much - but each to their own, as they say.

Jackson Pollock is one of the most important artists of the 20th century. No. 5 is one of the first "Drip" art or "Action" art pieces. It is like having the first painting by Picasso. This painting is the equivalent of owning the first impressionist painting or the first painting from any of the major genres.
