Cocker spaniel puppy. We have one and she is super sweet...we have three children and she loves on them and she is very gentle. She hardly ever barks...the only time she does bark is when she gets around our cats because she is trying to play with them.

The sweetest dogs I have ever had the pleasure of owning were from shelters. Mix breeds are not a bad bet either - just because it isn't a pure breed doesn't mean it isn't great - in fact they are in better health than pure bred puppies because their gene pool is larger. A shelter usually evaluates each pet and will tell you what their behavior is like - (preference on children, cats, playing, etc)
Oh, Barking is a behavior that can be modified with patience and great training.
Good luck!

No little dog loves children.
Think about it..small dogs are very tiny and they are low to the ground. Perfect for little kids to grab and pull on.
Small dogs also bark a lot and they are very stubborn, so potty training and teaching basic commands will be difficult.
I think you need a plush toy.

sorry to say, but most small dogs bark allot! i think they want to make sure we know they are around LOL!! i would go to your local shelter to look for one! bring the kids and see how each dog acts around them!! this is the best way to pick a pet when you have kids!! lots of luck!!:)

Welsh Corgis are the greatest small dogs. They are adorable and have the sweetest temperments.

I would search local shelters & rescues, for small breed(s). Don't narrow your search to purebreds, because, in my opinion, the best ones, are the mix breeds.

Their are plenty to choose from so use your own judgement. But keep your meat-hooks and eyes off MY dog.
