As you live in the UK there must be a LUSH shop in your area. They sell a range of face washes that are soap free. The best one is called Fresh Farmacy. They sell it in a block, and it's not cheap, but lasts for ages. Its made with real chamomile and kaolin clay and all sorts of unusual stuff that's brilliant for your skin. My daughter used it when she developed very bad acne after her baby was born. It was the only product that helped until the special antibiotics kicked in.

SIMPLE soap from Sainsbury's with warm water. Follow up with warm water rinse and dab dry with a soft towel.
Leave face a little damp as this will absorb into the open pores of the skin.
