Please do not run the 800m tommorrow. Go to your doctor and get it checked out. You don't say how old you are but if you are under 21 you're bones are still growing and you could do long term damage to yourself. You have probably got a sports injury and rest is probably the best cure for it. You can help your ankle by putting a ankle support on it and resting it up. Bathing your ankle in Very hot water and then straight into Ice Cold water will help for any swelling you may have. You may need to see a physiotherapist. My daughter was a top athlete so I do know what I am talking about.

Have you strained, sprained, or broken your ankle before? If you have, even once, it could have been weakened to the point where it can't hendle the stress you're putting on it. The news you probably don't want to hear: if this is the case, and you continue to sprint on a weakened ankle, it will not get better, it will get worse.
If you absolutely must, try using a support for your ankle, like an ace bandage or a specialty brace or support. Warm up first by doing some walking or slow jogging (sprinting to the ankle is like you being expected to literally jump out of bed and constantly move from the second you get up... you need to allow it time to "wake up"). Make sure you're wearing properly fitting running shoes. Not only do you want to make sure you're leaving enough toe room, you want to make sure the top of the shoe is not coming to a place that is uncomfortable for your ankle. Since you say you "used to be a sprinter", I assume you're using proper technique (not running with your feet outturned, running on kind of the sides of your feet, or putting more pressure than is necessary on your ankles rather than keeping proper posture to not be running and putting all your weight on your ankles improperly.
If/when you are in pain afterwards, probably tylenol, ice and elevation will be the best thing to help you.
I don't know of any school that requires all students to sprint 800 meters. Perhaps you should consider not being a sprinter anymore, since it seriously hurts now, and stop putting your ankle in pain in the name of gym class.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Have you tried putting a packet of frozen peas on it, even if they start to thaw, you can just keep that one packet for putting ice onto the ankle.

This is not going to resolve you immediate need for tomorrow. But I highly recommend for you to take Glucosamine every-day.
It does wonders for your bones. It does not matter is you are young. Start now.
