As she is on a base filled with men she is getting a lot of sexual harrasment, and she can't even walk around the base in the evening without a
bunch of these men making sexual remarks at
her. They also do the same thing in the office where she works. I'm proud she is a Marine and
I don't think she should be harrased by these
men as they are supposed to be polite. They even drink in the barracks. I think these men are
out of place and a sad excuse for Marines. Can
anone tell me what to do to stop this? I don't
want to give her name as it would probally do her more harm than good.I also don't want to give the name of the base either because it would get back to them in a minute. Thanks

Maybe you could get in touch with your congressman or some state Representative and tell them your problem. Hope it works out for you and your daughter.

How would she know that they're 'drinking' in the barracks? Men and women are seperated in the USMC so she should never be in a males barracks. While I have seen some harrassment of females in the USMC this is becoming the exception rather than the rule. The USMC is the greatest 'fighting force' in the world. And as a result you get men who are fighters and are rough around the edges. You'll hear the occasional off color remark about women but she decided to join this institution and therefore must also understand that there will be some normal ribbing that goes along with the territory. It'd be like a gay guy saying that he gets offended when he hears the gunny say you're all a bunch of queers as an insult. I'm not sayin that she has to put up with an inordinate amount of sexual comments and especially not physical harassment but she will hear the occasional joke (usually these jokes aren't aimed at the specific individual but rather at a group as a whole), I think that your daughter may be blowing things a little out of porportion...especially upon hearing the drinking in barracks part....I've been a Marine for years and if anyone under my command was caught with alcohol it would be a long time in hell for him/her. If she does feel however that things have gotten out of control tell her to take it up with her CO. Always follow the chain of command...nothing will get her in more trouble than to circumvent this. Where is she stationed, BTW.

There is little to nothing YOU can do to stop this, but she has many options. The first thing she needs to do is report it - it is her option to make it an informal or a formal complaint. Both will yield an investigation but she can remain fairly anonymous with the informal complaint. Once it becomes a formal one, though, her identity can no longer be protected as those being charged have the right to face their accuser. It should be reported directly to her chain of command. If she is not comfortable with that, or if they are part of the problem, then she needs to go to her unit EO Rep (every unit has one). If the entire unit is an issue - she can elevate it to her battalion chain of command or her battalion EO Officer. DOD and the USMC have very strict guidelines regarding this sort of behavior and her EO Officer can explain everything in great detail.

Have her contact the SAVI (Sexual Assualt Victims...??) or the CMEO (Command Management Equal Opportunity) or the Chaplain. Her fellow Marines that need education on respect and humility.
If they are drinking in the barracks and harassing her, she should call the base police/Provost Marshall.

If it bothers her that much, she should take it to her officer in charge and discuss it with him. If she seems afraid of that, she can see the chaplain. Other avenues are Base Legal Officer, if it is manned by an attorney. There are multiple ways of handling this and each of them might be different.

Her officer in charge would probably be best.

Really, if your daughter is old enough and independent enough to be a Marine (and that takes some doing), stay out of it and only let her know what I have told you.

Your son's catch 22 situation isn't the exception in protection stress existence, yet extra in many circumstances the guideline. permit the criminal expert paintings. i be attentive to it is not undemanding to take a seat down lower back and don't something, however the gadget is complicated and now and lower back what seems black and white to you and that i isn't lots in the eyes of the regulation. those concern take time regrettably, and regrettably, now and lower back the courtroom may even say that he's been out of his daughters existence too long and he or she's extra sturdy with the mummy. even although she's the guy who compelled him to stay away!!! i be attentive to this does not help lots, yet there is somewhat not lots you're able to do. till you're very politically related on your state. She has to go to someone in authority. preferably an officer. The Marines, like all branches of the Armed Forces, have a code of conduct - and also the UCMJ, the code of military justice. There are ways to stop this harassment. The Marines have seen it before and do not tolerate it.

she should contact the IG she will know what that means,,, but she needs to make sure she does not skip her chain of command in this processes. that would get her in more trouble than anything.. she needs to start with her team leader, let this person know whats going on, if that's does not work , the her squad leader, if still no help the platoon Sgt, and so on till she gets to the company commander, then if all else fails the IG.

tell her to file a complaint. I know there are many female marines and I have only heard of this from a few. You gotta remember that she is like throwing a lamb into a lions den. These are all alpha males, run thru the wringers of combat training and combat. testosteron is sky high.

She needs to report them but like you said it will make matters worse for her. Have her right you letters....this way it is in writing by here of what is going on. Then contact your congressman or woman and senator and send copies of the letters to them.

They already know what is going on in the armed forces. Over in Iraq there have been women soldier casulaties from dehydration because they refuse to go to the bathroom at night. If they do leave their tent or barracks to use the latrine they are raped by their own soldiers. GO FIGURE!!
