Why do you think your kid(s) are doing drugs when really their not?

I’m a dad with a teenager and it's our worst fear, so we keep the radar up. Same thing with sex. Our "suspicion” is just us keeping our fingers on that particular pulse. What vibes are you giving off that might arouse suspicion? Friends? Physical appearance? Attitude toward life? Even music?

If you want to quell the suspicion, approach the subject head-on with your parents. Initiate the conversation and ask them why they suspect. Ask what you could do to reassure them. Just that willingness to open that kind of dialog with them on the subject will go a long ways toward showing that you have nothing to hide. It will help foster trust.

BTW, if you are using drugs, there is probably little you could do to sway their suspicion. Some stuff parents just “know”. If you feel that you can’t talk to your parents about it, talk to a school counselor or a pastor or youth pastor about getting some help. See? I’m not even your dad, but even I sound suspicious! Actually, we just care.

Best wishes to you, stopxsnap.

It's perfectly natural fo parents to worry about their children, especially around the teenage years when they're so impressionable and surrounded by peer pressure. Parents love their children and want to be involved in their lives, and make sure they're okay. They love their kids and they want to be sure they're not giving in to things like drugs and alcohol, etc.
