I live in a college town with a couple great independent gift-type shops and I was wondering how I would go about getting them to sell my photography? I really have no idea how to do this. Should I sell it to them and then they sell it to someone else for a different price?

It's customary for occasional suppliers, like yourself, to furnish the items on consignment. The store owner takes from 40 to 60 percent to cover the use of his store and reputation at no cost to you. You establish the percentage when you show him your photos and ask to submit them. It's customary also to be paid monthly for anything sold. Hope this helps. Crafters work this way all the time. You can furnish tags with your phone no. listed several times so potential buyers can tear them off. Use a tracing wheel to perforate the separations. You can get one wherever they sell sewing supplies. Tape the list on the back bottom of the picture frame, letting the numbers hang below the frame. That way you don't damage any surfaces.

That's one way to do it. You could also do it in a sort of consignment way where you sign a contract and at the end of each week or month you are paid a percentage of what photos have sold. Start with one store and see how the manager or owner reacts. See if they want you to be exclusive to their store or what not. Would that be hurtful or benificial to you. You can always sign an agreement for a limited amount of time to test the waters and move on if need be.

You should go into the stores and try to speak with the owner/manager. Since it isnt a "chain store" type of store, it prolly has a single owner, someone who is approcahable and may be willing to either buy your photogs out right or take them and sell them and take a percentage of the sales.
