For a Coast Guard spouse to live w/ her husband on base and become an orthodontist? I wouldnt think she would have trouble for the first 4 years; either taking classes on base or online; but after that when she needs to go to dental school; where would she go? She would have to go to one of the 56 accreditated dental schools and that would be hard if ones not around the base. I might be missing something here, can anyone give me adivise..PLEASE!? for 10 points

My wife is a dentist and I'm a Marine. She was able to complete dental school at USC without many issues. To be an orthodontist you realize that you're talking about six years of dental school, right? Four for dental degree and two for specialty. Secondly, getting into Specialty school especially orthodontics is very difficult and if she does get in the chances that it will be in the same school that she went to dental school at are slim and none. I doubt she'll be able to live on base with you and attend school but it also depends on where you're at and what schools are around you. Good Luck

yeah it can happen....but...you are going to have to MAKE it happen. Meaning she may go to a school a couple hrs away from where you live. Are you prepared to make the sacrifice? It all comes down to how bad does she want the degree and are you willing to support the effort no matter what. Hey lets be honest here, if it were easy everyone would be doing it.

she would go to College like every other military spouse who wishes a specific degree or school.. she runs the risk of being seperated for those years. The CG will send the SM to where they need them, regardless of convenience to the family.

It is possible, but not at all straight forward by the sound of it.
