Technically, the act of blow drying is not what causes the split ends. It's the heat and the act of brushing your hair. The heat weakens the hairs and makes them easier to break off - I think you'd probably be okay with using a blow dryer as long as you keep it on a medium setting and don't put it right on top of your hair.

Causes of split ends: Blow dryers - a.k.a. blow fryers. Bad hairbrushs which snag and get caught in hair. Flat irons/straighteners which rob the hair of moisture and cause breakage. Hair elastics which pull and snag hair. Towel drying hair. Bleaching or dyeing hair. And so on. I'll tell you who has them real bad. Hayden Panettiere from Heroes. Watch and when the camera goes in close on her look at her hair. It's not smooth and silky it looks a bit fried. Hairs will typically have a Y shape on the ends. Not everyone gets them but I'm not sure everyone understands what they are.

They could. Try the new Tourmauline kinds. Revlon has one which is $25. I love it. It makes my hair silky and no split ends.

it shouldn't. use a cool-warm heat. you can also use neutrogena heat safe or some type of product in your hair to protect before styling. make sure you schedule regular haircuts. the only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them.
