Actually, I think it has. If not the "meaning' - then perhaps the "reasons" have evolved.

Twenty years ago, I had never heard the term: "Vegan". Now I hear it all of the time.

While there has always been a thread of not wanting to kill animals for their meat in the philosophy of vegetarianism - I see a lot more people adopting this reason as the prime motivation for not eating meat in their lives.

There is a lot of talk of vegetarianism for health reasons now, too - and more books written about it - than twenty years ago.

But I don't think the 'definition' has changed at all. To me it still means "no meat of any kind".


P.S. I am not a vegetarian.

No it still means the same thing. One added interesting reason to be vegetarian, is the tainted meat supply in America. Hormones, mad cow, OOOOOOOOO yum yum!

I guess. I saw a 'vegetarian' order a pepperoni pizza and pick of the pepperonis. She didn't want to eat them, but liked the flavor it left.

im vegeterian and im forever annoyed that in cafe's or resturants the vegeterian option is fish! do people have NO IDEA!!!!
You are NOT vegeterian if you eat fish, you are a piscaterian!
I hope people can grasp the simplicity of that!
