5-7 days airmail is predicted by Royal Mail but can be much quicker to East Coast. I've even posted a parcel mid day Saturday and it's arrived in California Tuesday morning. When tracking insured parcels, they've always left UK same day. I think the hold up is in customs in USA.

I've sent letters and packages to Scotland. It took the least about 3 days, most close to two weeks. I believe it's the time you send the packages. I try to send before 12 because most post offices have their mail picked up at that time by the trucks. I am not sure when the plane leaves for international mail but I think if you send it out by the post office early, you should be fine.

Also make sure you write the address correctly.

If it is an aerogramme - you know the all-in-one thingy - then about 4 days in total door to door. Other wise it can be a bit of a lottery over 5-6 days in some cases. It can depend on the originating are and the actual destination.
