of course not.
any dog can be trained.
'you can't teach an old dog new triks' doesn't really make sense. the dog jus needs to know what you want from it!
good luck!

Its never too late to train a dog, increasing age just makes it that much more difficult. I have a 5year old off the track greyhound and it just takes LOTS of patience and more time.

Happy Training

According to my trainer, a dog can be taught up to 4 years. After that you are stuck with what you get. I have a 4 yr old that hates every member of my family except me, he doesn't play well with other dogs, especially males and I never take him to Petsmart. The large yard is big enough & we go to the park sometimes. I just tell anyone who wants to pet him NO! And I have a good collar & strong leash. He's only snapped at my husband & kids so I think he sees me as the pack leader, I don't tolerate his behavior & he knows it.

Nope, it's not too late. Whatever you want to teach the dog, whether it's manners or tricks, just be consistent. Now that the dog is older, it may have gotten away with not listening to you or doing some behavior that you now want to change, so you have to be consistent with both praise and corrections.

It is never to late to obedience train any dog as long as your dog is in good health. It maybe harder as yuo will have to undo the bad training the dog has had. But it can be done

Did you utilize wee wee pads with him? if so, then perhaps he's experienced to bypass interior on the pad and does not see the version between it and your bathmat. undemanding answer = close the bathing room door. slightly extra good = save a persevering with eye on him. acceptable yet = cover in the bathe and watch for him to wander in and start up sniffing the bathmat. as quickly as he squats, toss something at him (can crammed with pennies, a toddler rattle, etc - something that makes noise) and YELL NO. a pair of times and you will have him believing the bathmat is cursed. difficulty solved. Disclaimer ... you'll be able to desire to coach him to bypass potty outdoors. in case you stop him from going on the bathmat, the place is he going to bypass next?

OF course not. they can still learn.... even an older dog can learn certain things.. tricks, however, such as rolling over, doing this or that is harder to teach after a dog is 3 or older.
