Just had a touring holiday in Wales, drove up from the south, through the Brecon's, up through Snowdonia, Breathtaking scenery, fantastic coast, loads of waterfalls. Snowdonia in answer to your question.

Pembrokeshire South wales especially around Tenby and Saundesfoot very nice there been a couple of times. Also in north wales you could try Llangollen, Betswy-coed, Rhyl.
Have a nice trip when you go.

Machynlleth - north toward mid-Snowdonia - untouched (well it was in 1997) - aural and just pure magic. Or (if your coming from Northern England) - get yourself on the A494...takes you through Bala and the lake, down toward Dolgellau - then a slow ride down to Tywyn - or the other side towards Barmouth and Harlech - suggest you miss Barmouth, as it tends to be a bit like any small English resort - but the road to Harlech...along the coast. Heaven!
It may sound snobbish, but leave out Rhyl and the other towns towards Anglesey - tends to have it's fair share of North West (English) young 'uns selling either stolen goods or drugs...and before someone argues - saw it whilst visiting friends in Llandudno some time ago.

My in-laws live in Pembrokeshire, and it a really pretty part of the country. Tenby and Saundersfoot are great towns with good beaches. There is also great walking in that part of Wales.

As you see by the first four answers they can only see to the border between wales and England, and talking through their English heads or tails, which ever you wish to pick. Its not all coal tips etc. now You donthave to travel far into Wales to find many beautiful and interesting places. The Gowercoast, Tenby, Port Marrion,Snowdoia, to name but a few,
