First we must ask what is reality? Surprise, reality as we see it, is only an illusion. For example color does not exist, it is an illusion created within the mind itself. In reality, color is a small band of frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum. Sound is actually pressure waves on air or some other medium where the molecules bump against each other. What we hear is an illusion created in our minds, from such pressure. Likewise, time and space does not exist. In reality, the universe is much stranger than anyone can imagine!

All of these illusions, physical senses, spacial sense, and temporal sense are necessary for existence as human beings. They are the great deception of the physical realm, which I prefer to call Hell. This is indeed the realm of Satan the great deceiver. Satan, by definition is the collective consciousness of all living things, the collective Beast. It is the deafening roar of sensation, the illusion of self, of consciousness, blinding us from the one true reality which is God.

The confusion caused by this deafening roar of 'reality' is the reason for most religions. Yes, Satan is the cause! But, here is another surprise, Satan is part of God. God is all that is, throughout all time and space. God is not human! It, and I spell "It" with a capital "I" out of reverence, is not male or female. It is separate from nothing. Indeed, it is the vanity of man that created God in his own image! It is man who separates himself, yet another illusion, from God!

Now, with God being perfect and all that is, It is very secure and has no desire to be worshiped. It could care less if we are aware of It. On the other hand, Satan, is very insecure and often masquerades as God in an attempt to gain power and control over It's domain. More often than not, Satan is the one who establishes our sense of right and wrong, moral and immoral. Thus, through the power of religion Satan wreaks havoc on his domain.

I suppose I should attempt to describe the indescribable, that is God. I've been there more than once and still I am in awe! God is an all knowing, life force of intense love and wisdom, spanning all of what we perceive as time and space. It perceives the ever present now, as an infinite and simultaneous number of parallel possibilities (worlds?). The past and future are just as clear to It as the present with all their infinite variations. It perceives all of the possible pasts, and all possible futures, as an everlasting and never changing instant. As an everlasting instant spanning all space and time for eternity without change, God has no need for form or the limitations of thought and emotion. Or for that matter sex, so It doesn't mate with humans to beget a son. :^)

As humans we are about as important to God, as a speck of dust floating around in some distant galaxy is to one of us. It, the one true God, is not so weak that It needs us to worship and do It's bidding. No, that's Satan the great deceivers mode of operation.

Organized religion tends to lose respect for free will, for the right of others to think and do as they will. Thus, once in power, they often begin to fill jails and play major roles in war and mass destruction, such as the current mass extinctions. Such is the realm of Hell!

It gives the believers the hope of eternal life .
It gives them something to worship.
It gives them something to either to thank or curse for whatever happens in their life .
Some religions teach love and respect .
Some have standards in which to live .
religion teaches people to be subservient and obey.It give them a place to go to in their minds to get away from it all.
This is the best i can do ,for i am an Atheist.

To explain the human purpose and keep order. People grieve circumstance. They need some method of closure that allows them to go on without thinking too much about it.
