I am Muslim and I can answer this for you:

A person is a Muslim when they CHOOSE to be a Muslim. It doesnt matter if your Mother, Father, and your whole family are Muslims--you can only be a Muslim when you CHOOSE Islam.

There are people whose parents are Muslims, but they themselves are not because they dont want to be.

When a person become an adult, they have to make the decision to be a Muslim. It has to come from the heart and be sincere.

What makes a person a Muslim is this:
1. Believing there is only 1 God.

2. Believing in the Prophets of God: Moses, Jesus, Abraham, King David, and all the many others--and believing in the messages they taught. And believing in the Koran as the last and final book sent from God.

3. Believing in Day of Judgement and the AfterLife. Knowing that we are here on earth as a test; and in the end, God will reward us with Heaven or hellfire.

Those are the main things-once you believe this, you will be guided to greater Truth as time goes by.

Check out this site, and it will answer Most of your questions.
Peace

Every person is born a Muslim whether he/she realise it or not. Islam is a religion that takes into consideration the very nature of human. Why is this so? It is because our very existence on this planet is as a worshipper of our Creator. It is stated in the Qur'an (51:56) where God Almighty said: “I have not created the Jinn and man but that they should serve Me.”

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (peace be upon him), Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Every new-born child is born in a state of fitrah. Then his parents make him a Jew, a Christian or a Magian, just as an animal is born intact. Do you observe any among them that are maimed (at birth)?” (Sahih Muslim)

‘Fitrah’ here means an inclination and readiness toward monotheism and the religion of truth (Islam). So everyone is born a Muslim but their parents changes their religion and way of life the way their parents changed theirs before that and it goes on and on back to their ancestors.

But unfortunately, these religion, Christianity & Judaism, which you mentioned, were actually altered version of the true message which God Almighty conveyed through his messenges and prophets.

Islam is the only religion and way of life acceptable to achieve salvation in this world and the hereafter. Therefore to achieve salvation, it is a prerequisite to accept Islam as a religion and way of life which then makes you a Muslim. Islam has 2 meanings which are 'submission' and 'peace'. So it actually means 'peace obtained by submitting your will to Almighty God'. Therefore, a Muslim is 'one who obtains peace by submitting his/her will to Almighty God'.

I urge you to study into the depths of Islam, discover it from its own sources, not just from biased opinions of other people, don't indulge yourself in ignorance and blind yourself with the worldview of others, you have the right and I believe might to study about Islam and when you do, you will discover that it suits the the very nature of human.

First being respectful..Yes, parents are playing an active role to make their child a Muslim like in other religions..But it's not meaningful to be a Muslim without doing some jobs of Islam..

Some people are born and raised in Muslim families(although everyone is born Muslim), others as adults choose to become Muslims (ME). What makes me a Muslim is declaring that there is no God except Allah, that Muhammad was his last messenger. I follow the five pillars of Islam......Declaring faith, daily prayer, give in charity, fast in Ramadan and pilgrimage to mecca at least once in my life (if i can afford it).

Wittmast...What a load of bull........apart from the male circumcision ( Jewish people circumcise there sons too and if Christians really followed the bible they would also), everything else you said is crap.

2 b a muslim ....u need to have FAITH. that is all. you dont need to go fru any ritual or any of that sort. all u gt 2 do is have faith that u believe in one god and that Muhammed (peace be upon him) is his messenger. Everyone is born a muslim- whether you believe it or not....but only when you'r brought up in another religion and you believe in something different, that’s when your no longer a muslim. Many muslims r born in a muslim family and others are made to decide for themselves. Its just your choice.

By the way…. This is to ‘dextrophan’…. Muslims don’t even wear a turban so get your facts straight...lol

Muslims must submit to the five pillars of Islam.

Circumcision is practiced for boys. Ear-boring is practiced on girls.

Children of Muslims are basically born into Islam and if they chose another religion would generally be considered apostates.

A person should study the Quran and Sunnah, then it is upto him to be a muslim or not. he is not forced by parents or anybody else. Muslims are not commanded to follow blindly.

According to Muslim law (my ex-husband was Muslim and he explained it to me) when you are born to already Muslim practicing parents, you are automatically considered Muslim.

It is STRONGLY advised NOT to change your religion when you grow up.

Also, it is FORBIDDEN for a Muslim woman to marry a non-Muslim man, BUT a Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim woman, but she MUST convert to Islam after they marry. If she does not (as I did not convert), the man MUST divorce her (although I divorced my Husband, not the other way around).

Have a lovely rest of the day.
