That's a horrible story, which is why you should always check that people are gonna buy you presents before you go crazy on them lol. A similar thing happened at my school when i was in year 8. It was valentines day, and this boy came into school with about 7 gift bags all filled with teddies, chocolates flowers, jewlery and just loads of really expensive looking stuff. She came into class, and all she had was one of those tiny little teddies you get from gift shops. I don't know what was more embarrased, but she really was embarrased, maybe your boyfriend was? I don't know, but anyway if it was ME, Hmm... I'd just take all the presents back :) Merry Christmas x

I always send my boyfriends family a gift card from Starbucks.
That way they have soemthing they will use and I know they enjoy a good latte.

try gift baskets?? you can buy one pre-made or make one up your self and fill it with stuff they like--example, favorite coffee from Duncan donuts, wine, books, crackers and cheese, or a gift certificate from their favorite store. any way good luck
