Hardly call us conservative.
Why in modern times with good health measures do Orthodox Jews and Muslims NOT EAT PORK. It's no longer unclean.
Now, you found some conservatives. People who have problems with ham, bacon, pork chops, spare ribs.
Which leads us back to your topic and my answer. Religion is the CONSCIENCE of the soul.
Religion slows us down so we don't liberalize too fast.
Some say, for example, that AIDS was a man made virus. Done at some lab in Africa.
Let's not debate the example as true or false.
One day man will be gene splicing what if man goofs and a serious illness occurs.
First, with those in the lab stay there or will they run for the front door like mad!
Once outside, do they infect us!
Man is on the VERGE of creating life.
Now, go watch the movies Species and Outbreak, both of which are good real world examples.
We in the religious world will have NO problems with Scinetsts doing these things on the Moon, but we want them in containment for six months with white mice near by and 24/7 monitoring, including a conservative religious person on the monitoring board.
We don't want any 7 headed monsters released by man on Earth, go do it on Mars!
Or better yet, some other Country,eh! France, UK, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Greece, Egypt, Palestine.
That's where we'll put the lab and let the sciences splice genes and if thing get out of control it will be the MORE LIBERAL and less REligious people that die first.
Cool, with that!

I'd honestly hate to think that you believe that we are opposed to stem cell research. That is simply untrue. What we are concerned with is making sure that the helpless are not taken advantage of, so we are slow in coming to a good decision about it.
In the beginning of the stem cell media blitz, they reported to us that they were using aborted babies for this research. The extreme fundamentalists took hold of that and used it to proclaim there would be baby factories where women would deliberately get pregnant in order to abort and sell the baby parts to the highest bidder. Naturally, just the thought of that was disgusting to the average American.
And of course, as usual, the media was wrong. We are now coming to know this and are accepting that in fact what scientists are wanting are merely the stem cells from stillborn babies, much in the same way that we use organ donation from the deceased.

You have your facts mixed up.
The USA is no longer a conservative Christian nation. We just missed the enlightenment. Europe is about 200 years ahead of us when it comes to sinful lifestyle. Looks like we are catching up fast though.
We have never been against stem cell research-never. The more conservative Americans are against farm raising babies just to slaughter for body parts-this we are against. Stem cell research-no.
Unfortunately the majority of our scientist do believe in evolution (about 55% NYT poll 1998). However many do not. Evolution is not an exact science. It is 100% speculation, and no one can argue against that. There are many bones in many museums and universities, but absolutely no proof of their age.
BTW, Christianity came along 600 years before Mohammad, and 1850 years before the first hint of communism. Judaism was here long before that. So we are not using religion to counter those dumb ideas.

Actually, the church in this country is quite liberal in that they have kicked out most of the principles of the Bible in exchange for the rules of the devil. Give the heretic churches enough timer and they will adopt evolution too. Most so-called Christians do not read the Bible, and those that do do no know what they are reading. It is the relatively few conservative pastors such as myself that you hear from the most because the liberals are too busy counting their money and changing the oil in their limos to bother with you.

I'm an American who avows the teaching of evolution and supports stem cell research.
Are you a racist that says all Americans are bad because of our current government?
Back off.

It just goes on to show how difficult it is to undo the work that brainwashing does to kids.
Long before Americans children develop their brains enough to do science, they are already brainwashed with religious crap. So although they learn sciene, they still find it hard to use science to gain further understanging of human behaviour and psychology.
