Use an ice pack. It'll numb the area and reduce swelling which is causing some of the pain.

First of all, know this: Darvocet is nothing but glorified Tylenol.
It sure as heck isn't going to do anything for bruised rib pain.
You need to call the doctor and get something stronger.
Bruised ribs are painful because everytime you take a breath your ribs expand and they move.
There's not a whole lot you can do for them. If the doc doesn't give you something stronger, try motrin with the darvocet and see if that helps. Be careful how you bend and twist your body. Stay away from picking up or carrying heavy objects.
Hope this helps.

Porky, please be careful with the Darvoset; indeed, with all Rx painkillers. They're highly addictive. (I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know; sometimes it helps to hear it again, though.) Best OTC remedy is Tylenol, not aspirin. Try the extra-strength Tylenol.
What's with the bruised ribs, anyhow? You in a fight? What's the other guy look like? Yikes!

Ok, first off, darvocet is crap. I have had probably around 8 or so doctors tell me the same thing. I would seriously go back to the ER and ask them for something different like maybe vicodin or percocet. Those WILL help you. After you get done doing that, send me a few. =P
Just kidding.
Good luck.

Bruised ribs are very painful. You need to contact your primary physician for a different prescription, But, since the pain is so intense, you may have to be prepared to suck some of it up.

Darvocet is a weak pain reliever I would ask for a 10mg hydrocodone. That would help

call your doctor and tell him ask if he could prescribe vicodin its a stronger pain killer which will stop the pain, but it is addictive if taking over long periods of time
