Our new Boxer pup has tendencies to use the pads to pee and not to use them to poop. What's up with that? Can anyone spare an idea or two to help us out? Thanks!

well, dogs do not normally pee and poop in the same area,,,,,, so are you providing pads in two areas? if possible, its always best to train them to poop outside,, take them out within half hour of eating, or less for a small pup
if they must go inside,,,,, as stated have two different areas,,,,,, neither near their food or bed,,,, then next time the puppy poops, place that on the designated pad,, hopefully it will get the idea

Look into crate training. I swear by it. A dog has a natural tendency not to soil its sleeping place, so keeping a dog in a crate when you can't watch him like a hawk (and I do mean like a HAWK!) in the house works really well. Take him outside to pee/poop after he wakes up, eats, drinks, plays, and about every hour or so even if none of the other stuff applies. An 8-wk-old pup can't hold it for long, so he will go in the house if you don't do this. The pads are OK if you have to leave him for a long time (but don't put them in the crate), but basically you are teaching him it's OK to go in the house.

Take the dog out ever 30 min till it will get used to going available in the market. Say, "cross potty" or whatever like that again and again everytime. Make definite to simply use that word in the course of that point. Stay available in the market with it till it is going. If it is going, then compliment it with a puppy or a deal with. If your dog simply sits there then stroll round slowly and are not making eye touch it'll comply with after which begin to smell the bottom. If the dog is going within the residence bfore its time for it to move out, then say no again and again til it learns that no is dangerous. Do no longer select it up or spank it or contact it cuz then it thinks it is getting awareness. Wal-Mart sells those dog pads name bio- whatever that rather do paintings. it has the identical smells as grass and filth. They rate a tiny tiny bit extra however cleansing poop out of the carpet sucks. Good good fortune. Labs and lab mixes have a tendency to be very clever and trainable.

I agree with the crate training answer! We just got another puppy and crate trainging works everytime. Being 8wks old, I would suggest getting a crate with adjustable sizes. Puppies DON"T like to mess where they sleep. However, If you have a crate big enough to hold him when he is full grown they have tendensies to potty is one corner and sleep in another. Which defeats the purpose of crate training. You do have to take them out about every hour being that little. It took us about 2-3 weeks to train our puppy and we had NO accidents in her crate! Puppy pads are ok, but the problem I've found with them are that it teaches puppies to just potty on the pads rather than knowing that outside is where you potty.

Take him/her out regularly and often. Start saying a consistent phrase like "Let's go outside" or "Let's go potty outside" my dogs know what that means and they come running. When we got out there I say "go potty" and they know what to do. When the dog does what it is supposed to do praise it, I over do it by clapping and saying "yay!good dog! you went potty!". If the dog poops in the house, take it out and put it in the grass where you want the dog to go so it can see it and smell it. Boxers are smart and with time it should train easily. They tend to be hyper and destructive though, I would suggest crate training when you aren't home,for the safety of the dog and your furniture!

Potty traning with papers is just letting the dog know its okay to potty in the house - bad! You should always enforce the fact that if you are going to potty its going to be outside never inside.

Take the puppy out side regular. A few minutes aftr eating, When getting him out of his play pin and before putting him back. Not quite old enough to crate train yet.

Run down to the book store and get a copy of one of the top dog books. It will not only help you with this, but with any number of other things to come. Worth the investment and there are some great books out there on this subject.

when he does a poop, pick it up & put it on the paper, He'll get the hint!! Although as cute as boxers are, they do tend to be a little dumb!!!
