I found this beautiful song by Nina Simone. What do you know about the lyrics and the singer?

Ramsey, if I knew French I could provide you with the rest of the lyrics.... but then I wouldn't need to ask.

Even though "ne me quitte pas" does indeed mean "do not leave me", the English translation of this wonderful 1972 Jacques Brel song that is most often performed is Rod McKuen's version, "Do Not Go Away."

Go to http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/n/nemequittepas.shtml# for the lyrics in French, English and Italian, as well as a list of all the singers who have covered the song, including Nina Simone.

For more on Nina Simone, visit her official Website at http://www.ninasimone.com/, or this unofficial one: http://www.boscarol.com/nina/.

If you're still hungering for more information, en.wikipedia.org has articles on both Nina Simone and Jacques Brel. In the latter, you'll learn that the English translation by Des de Moor, titled "Don't Leave Me," is considered closer to the original in imagery and lyricism. You'll find it here, towards the bottom of the page: http://www.ordet.it/earworms/earworms.htm.

Loosely translated, it's "Don't leave me."

Literally, it's "Don't quit me".

Perhaps if you'd provided the rest of the lyrics, it might have helped, ma'am.
