because it was named after its inventor

Edmund Vladimir Lemon was said to have come across the lemon by mere accident after mating a lime and an orange together. A lot of work was put into incubating more and more lemons for the lemon wars and soon there was a massive amount of lemons which continued to grow, overtaking the population of limes. Early in the 1900's lemons were employed into the spy faction of the KGB, Secret Service and MI5 and six sections of other inteligence agencies. By painting the lemons orange or green they could be disguised as oranges or limes. Furthermore, the lemon was popularized to civilians by a cunning advertising campaign. The ultimate slogan was 'If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. However, it is a well known fact that Vladmir was a true proponent of 'If life gives you lemons, find a guy with open wounds'

Since perception of color stems from the varying sensitivity of different types of cone cells in the retina to different parts of the spectrum, colors may be defined and quantified by the degree to which they stimulate these cells. These physical or physiological quantifications of color, however, do not fully explain the psycho physical perception of color appearance.

Nevertheless, an orange is an orange and a lemon is a lemon because of Adam and his great wisdom.

A man.

Go figure!

And along those lines, why aren't grapes called purples?

Seriously, the word "orange" ultimately comes from Sanskrit narang. Oranges originated in southeast Asia, in either India, Pakistan, Vietnam or southern China.

i think the orange was the first fruit of its kind to have that color. lemons, mangoes, kumquats, and all other yellow fruits were abundant.

but hey... a peach is also called a peach because of its unique color too. :)
