The question I have is as a parent why are you cutting yourself? What is causing you to hurt so bad that you are physically hurting your body to let go of the pain inside of you? Tell your parents the truth. If they love you they will understand and want to help you through this rough time! When you cut yourself what is going through your mind? Tell an adult that you trust if not your parents tell a teacher or call your doctor! The first step was asking for help!

You probably want your parents to see them. Isn't that part of the cutting thing? You could tell them and talk about it. There are lots of people out there who cut themselves for different reasons and for different lengths of time. You might just need a bit of attention from them. 13 is an akward age for most people. You are not alone. You could call a kids help line and discuss the situation with a counsellor also.

I had friends in catholic school who were cutters. They never took it to the extreme (life-threatening). This answer may get deleted (sim. to encourageing bulimia and anorexia).
I am a complete libertarian, so I feel you have every right to do with your body as you see fit, HOWEVER:
Cutting is often a superficial (literally) aid for deeper problems and definitely won't solve them. There are centers for treatment specific to this disease (phenomenon). If you feel that is what you need ask your parents to send you to one of these places.
I think you maybe able to solve this problem at home with outside help. Your parents won't understand at all, I'm guessing, but they should know. You may want to tell a school counselor first and then have him or her come to your house when you tell your parents. This makes it much easier!
Make sure that you are being as safe about it as possible, while you are still doing it. Use clean equipment. Try not to make a life threatening slash. Contrary to popular belief, most "cutters" never intend to harm themselves permanently (although this does happen). It is regarded as a stress relief tactic, and not a suidical tendancy, contrary to popular belief. Cutting is often considered preverse, but then again so is homosexuality.
There are many people life you. And fundamentally there is nothing wrong with you. But there are better more positive ways to release stress, at least thats what they say.
Parents often have trouble seeing their children as less than perfect. The experience might be similar to "coming out of the closet". But it is in your best interest to inform SOMEONE now.
Why? Frankly at 13, your parents have every legal right to force treatment. They may be more cooperative with what you feel is best if you approach them on the issue vs. them discovering it and panicking in shock.
Good luck to you, and remember everybody on this planet is a little messed up somehow.

cutting is a very serious issue. don't take it personal the ignorance of people quick to judge you. your parents won't understand. speak with another trusted adult....there is help out there. i had a family member do that from ages 11 to14....but counseling was almost immediate and at age 16, cutting is a distant memory. i have another family member who has been doing it since age 13....his parents turned a blind eye. this kid is now 23 and still cuts...and FYI...he is not "emo". his arms are terrible...usually cutters use only one arm, but he was so scarred that he had to use the other arm. please, seek help. good luck honey, you just need to learn to control your demons, not let your demons control you.

First of all you shouldnt be cutting yourself. I think rather than your parents finding out you should tell them and they help you get help. I know this is a hard thing to do but my friend was the same age as you and she got help and she is better now and is enjoying her life!

First of all don't hide it...u must not like what u do- other wise u wouldn't want to hide them. Parents are there to help you out!!!
My daughter did that...I found them and it nearly took the life out of me...but it also told me that she needed something "badly". We talked about why she was doing this to herself etc...
let's just say she celebrated her 15th birthday yesterday...and hasn't cut herself in three years!
BTW as I told her one day she could seriously injure herself by doing this...how would that make me feel to walk in on my dead daughter.
What about infections...I work in the medical field...female comes in from a bad blood infection from an object she used to cut with! lost one of hands and laps into a comma for two weeks...so pleeeze stop it!
Whatever the problem is...cutting is not going to resolve it!

Hi,
I understand where you are coming from and how you feel and why you do what you do. (I apologize for those that answer you here that are less than sensitive to your situation.)
Mildly put, you need to find someone to help you. Seriously. I am in college, and I had a "crisis" of sorts lst semester and eneded up in the Counseling Center at school - they helped quite a bit.
Is there someone (adult) you can talk to in your school guidance office?
If not, PLEASE try contacting a Teen Crisis line - you don't have to be on the verge of suicide to make a call to these places.

Cutting yourself may be a quick soloution to stress but think about all the horrible attention you bring to yourself. Please tell your parents so you can get help. This is a serious situation. If they see it at school, your teachers might not allow you to go to school until they see you are being seen by a psychiatrist. Please seek help, perhaps one day you might cut deeper than you expected or get a horrible infection. Think about the consequences.

Tell them you cut yourself. Ask for help. If they can't, for some reason, help you, go to a trusted teacher, clergy person, or school counselor and get help!
You need to find alternative ways to express feelings.
