Why? because He is the Truth and the truth is challenging to things of the darkness of the human mind, they fear that which they do not comprehend, and the light that shines in the darkness of sin and denial.
you will see this in the negative votes this answer gets.

it isnt so much the fact people hear the name Jesus ,i bet many many people in some way respect that he more then likely was a gifted talented humanatarian of his time .
but people take it way to far and try to shove it down peoples throat in very threatening ways ,,,,,,telling others they are going to hell if they dont accept Jesus ,,,, TRYING to making others believe the way they have been taught and not allowing any sort of differences ,intolerance towards others beliefs ,,,,instead of trying to gain followers i think they do just the opposite because there is never much room for discussion about anything ,,,they like to simply throw out quotes from the bible and verses that are complex and really never seriously discuss some of the different ways of looking at things ,,,,,,so they are not running when they hear the name Jesus they are running from the closed mindeness of organized religion which leaves no room for any one to question anything ??????

We're not running from Jesus; we are running away as fast as we can from organized religion. Jesus' ethics and maturity have been p-----d by many and turned into only a shadow of what they should be. He was not after being worshiped, money, or control; he sought to have people bring out the best in themselves.

Because most bible thumpers like you are ex-cons, ex-drug heads, alchoholics, etc. You have simply have traded your addiction (what ever it may be) to converting all us sinners. To answer your question we just don't need the addiction and we don't feel it's God's will. Must of us live happy non-sin lives and feel pretty confident we will be let in the gates of heaven. It's sad to think you spend all your time on this.. I can't imagine God would want that. I can't imagine Jesus running around trying to convert everyone either. But then again, I also doubt he was addicted to anything either. What did you trade for your Jesus addiction??

They are not running from Jesus' name, they are running from a religious maniac who seems to think that the person they are trying to talk to has never before heard of Jesus and his disciples. If people wanted to be followers of Christ they would have done it for themselves, they don't need a reminder from you!

I believe because they are scared. Most people think that they have to be "good enough" for Jesus to accept them, but this isn't true. Just call upon the Name of the Lord and be saved.

They don't run when they hear the name Jesus.
They run when someone gets in their face like a bad political ad yelling about Jesus.
Back off.

well, i think some have expierenced the honest zeal and dedication of some christians,,, meaning that religion, in and of itself, basically has one way to God, so its followers/true believers, are not often able to have open discussions about religion,,, they view others as being on the wrong, not just different, path. and this turns people off! they want to save/convert others,,,,,, it took me along time to come to understand that,,,,,, im sure many just dont want to enter into conversations with them about Jesus,,,, as the end result is always them saying we are wrong,,,,,,, i happen to believe in Jesus, but i dont follow the Christian religion,,,, i dont think you have to be Christian to communicate with God.

They're not running from Jesus.
They're running from some crazy zealots, hypocrites, or maybe their own stereotype of who a Jesus-lover is.

I've never seen anyone run because they heard Jesus' name.
I've seen them run because a well meaning but overbearing Christian was going to assault them with religious mumbo jumbo, however.
