Anything with sounds and lights is always a hit! If the child watches tv, buy a character toy that plays the theme tune. My baby watches one show - 'The Backyardigans', but she watches the theme tune and 2 minutes of the actual show! Thats true for a lot of the babes I know.

How about a book with cardboard pages so that the child will not accidentally rip the pages?
Or something like melamine dinnerware (Bunny kins or Winnie the Pooh) that the child can use and enjoy.
