someone said it is antimcasser. Is this the correct spelling?

It is an antimacassar. (spelling?)
Apparently there was a hair product called "McCassar" (ditto spelling?) and the little doily thing would 'catch' the oily goop and one could wash it and protect the furniture. Only men used the goop, but then they are the ones sitting down while we serve them tea and cake at 4pm, arn't they? Or reading the paper. Ladies wore hats in those days so no need for the antimaccassar.

My mother and grandmother referred to them as a "set" of crocheted sofa and armrest doilies. The most popular pattern was the pineapple--the symbol of hospitality.
