At a race track sometimes a horse pays more for show than for place. How can I figure this out before a race?

Look at the betting pools for W/P/S. If a relatively small number of bets are put on the show horse, it will probably pay close to or possibly more than the place position.

You can find out by looking at the pools. As in how much money is bet for win,place and show on your horse.
