England as a whole doesn't have a postal code. Postal codes are allocated to addresses in England (and the UK) based on firstly their postal region, then their place within that region, then their specific location.
The first part of a postal code identifies a postal region e.g for Leeds, the postal code would begin with LS - the Leeds sorting office. The second part of the postal code identifies a sub-region, so central Leeds would be LS1. The final part of the postal code indicates the specific location e.g street and block of houses. A house or flat name or number and postal code is usually sufficient to identify any property in the UK.

There isn't just one postal code for england. It depands on the area and city/town. Although england may not be that big compared to some other countries, there are around 60million people here so we need more than one post code.

There are 100000's every town in England has a different one. Just London alone has 1000's. Each town alone has a different post codes. Let alone city. Where i used to live my post code was SE18 but my friend lived in SE2 but yet were 10 minutes walking distance apart. And then on top of that each STREET has a different last 3/4 digit code.

There is no postal code for a country. One is required to write name of the country only on the postal article. Codes have been provided for telephonic contacts to diffrent countries and code to be used for making a call to UK is +44.
