Stop thinking about the essay first of all. Get off the computer. Take some Excedrin migraine if you have any. (Or some other pain killer.) Lay in a dark room. Take a cold washcloth and lay it over your forehead or on the back of the neck. Hope something helps!

Cut off your head.

Sorry, I just read a question about a goldfish "my goldfish is floating around, what can I do... HELP ME NOW!" with answers - "buy it a life preserver" and "jump it with your pc, make sure your surge protector is plugged in"

*sigh*

Anyway, drink plenty of water, and take a break from your essay. Knowing that there is something you HAVE to do may be the source of your headache. Concentrating on it (the pain) only makes it worse.... and deadlines increase the pain too!

Look at the clock, and know that in 20 minutes you'll come back, and write a beautiful paper from beginning to end. You can do it! I know you can!!!

Step away from your desk, and leave all of those troubles right there. Breathe. Use your full breath. Make some hot cocoa, or a light non-caffinated tea... have a soothing drink of sorts while relaxing in a hot bathtub.

In the bathtub, close your eyes and become the center of your universe. Breath, and relax your body. Think about relaxing your toes, knees.... hips... spine.... legs... arms... lips... eyes.... mouth... forehead.

And when you reach complete looseness. Notice how you feel in perfect time, and perfect space..... think about who and what you really are...

It it is a true migraine headache, you might try caffeine (a cup or two--no more). That's about all you can do without a prescription drug. If it's really keeping you down, go to the emergency room and they will treat you as an out-patient. I have them occasionally and once I went. I was given morphine--which shocked me--but helped a great deal. I went home and slept it off. Not too good to help in three hours. Good Luck.

As an aside, you might see your doctor and get a prescription for a nasal spray for migraines. That works. And you would have it the next time this happens to you.

Best of luck on your test!

Try taking 2 anti-inflammatory tablets such as aspirin or ibuprofen. (You MUST make sure that you eat something before that, or you could risk stomch ulcers/bleeds). Make sure that you're drinking enough as dehydration can cause headaches/migraines.
You should be careful about what you are eating, as some foods can trigger migraine attacks - caffeine, chocolate, red wine, cheese are known to me.
Lie down in a darkened room with a cold compress on your head.
Most importantly, don't stress. Maybe you're worried about your essay which is causing you to get stressed, which in turn is causing you to have a migraine.

Hope that helps.

Good luck with your essay

Well this may sound stupid but i am serious and it works for all kinds of houshold pain, head aches tooth aches etc but it takeas a litttle courage to accomplish, if you have a regular push lawnmower go to it slide the rubber boot back on the spark plug with one hand hold the metal part of the spark plug ( where the wire connects) and GENTLEY pull the start cord this will deliver a small electrical shock to you, and i guarantee you migraine will instantly be gone, this is not a long time cure however if you get migraines often you need to seek medical advise, you could also bring up the lawnmower shock trick i guarantee he will also agree that it may not be practical but it is effective, hospitals use elctric shock thearapy all the time the just have more sophisticated machines to do it rather than a lawn mower..

When you are feeling better read this link & this info...

First, preventive, or prophylactic, medications are prescribed to prevent or reduce the number of attacks in patients who experience frequent Migraines, typically two or more per month. In general, these medications act over time to prevent blood-vessel swelling; however, they do not treat the Migraine-associated symptoms and are non-selective. Many sufferers using preventive treatments will still have to take attack-aborting medications to relieve pain and other symptoms.

Beta-blockers are the most commonly prescribed prophylactic treatment for Migraine and are considered to be an effective preventive treatment. Medication includes propranolol. Click here for more detailed information.

Antidepressants are believed to have a possible effect on serotonin or possible analgesic effects. Click here for more detailed information.

Calcium channel blockers are also used to decrease the frequency of Migraine attacks. It is thought that calcium channel blockers play a role in vessel constriction. Click here for more detailed information.

Methysergide is thought to block the inflammatory and vessel-constricting effects of serotonin. Because of potential side-effects, methysergide is generally used only on select patients. This medication also requires a four to six week drug hiatus every six months. Click here for more detailed information.

Divalproex Sodium (Depakote®) is probably the most promising of the preventive regiments currently available for Migraine. This drug was originally developed for Epilepsy; a disease often referred to as a sister disorder to Migraine, prescribed in much smaller doses when used to treat Migraine thus lessening the mild side effects.

I use migralieve tablets, they come in a pack with two colours, take the pink ones first and if these don't help you can take the yellow ones 2 hours later, lie in a dark room and try a cold compress ( ice pack or cold wet towel ) over your forehead and eyes.

Also get offline as screens make it far worse!

Try Asprin, lots of water to wash it down, a warm shower/ or bath, a hot towel on your head/ or cold, which ever you prefer, and stop staring at the computer screen for a little while. Computer screens hurt your eyes and that pain will travel up to you head.
